Planning 2.5 Months of the CK Only!

Hi all,

This forum has always been amazing and I am a big fan of this. I completed my step 1 recently and planning to apply for this match. I already passed my CS and am waiting for step 1 result.

I am planning to take my step 2 in August so that I can get my certification around Sept 15. Is this time frame good enough to get interviews?

I have only 2 and half months for step 2. I would be grateful if any one can suggest me a good preparation schedule to get a good score(230+) in this time frame. I read for step 1 pretty well. So, will that help me to save some time and help me prepare well in 2 and half months?

It would b of great help if somebody add their inputs.

Thanks in advance

I can't give you any specific advice regarding the prep as I am doing step2 first and then I will do step1, but the knowledge you gained in step1 would surely help you a lot here in step2. You also have a valuable Exam experience already and you are familiar with prometric and all, so that would help you as well.
If you are an IMG then you have to have all your results in hand before SEPT 1st 2011. If you have them all then you are ECFMG certified and that helps a lot in getting IVs.
So the latest you can take your exam is in the first couple of days of August because it takes around 3 weeks to get the results out and you have to get them before Sept 1. If you feel that you can do your prep in this much time then go for it, but take an NBME to judge yourself. If you are not getting it upto the mark, then you might have to delay your exam a bit. Don't rush.
Its the scores that matter the most and you can't compromise on that!

And if you are an AMG , then the sept 1st deadline does not matter to you and you can schedule your exam a little late when you are fully prepared.
Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the reply.

So,does that mean we are ECFMG certified automatically if we have all the results in hand or is there any seperate process for that.If so,how much time would it take after the completion of my step 2 ck?

I think the ECFMG validates all your medical school credentials irrespective of your test status, and when you are done with all the tests you get an automatic notification from them that you are now certified. But if there is a separate process I am sure it would be done within a week. You can search on their website if there is any specific requirement and if you find anything there, post it here as well
thanks

Hi examsmasher. How's your prep going? I'm in the same situation. I want to give the exam in August. I read MTB once and correlated with Kaplan notes which I skimmed. I started doing UWorld questions. I'm going to do an NBME in a couple weeks after another review. Do you have a plan of how you're going to finish everything in such a short time?

there was an announcement by the usmle administration that people taking tests in the period of aug-sept might have their results delayed. So keep that in mind as well and the sept 1st deadline for IMGs. Best of luck with all!

You know that if you take the exam from on or after August 3rd .. your result won't be out till September 28th? since they just announced on USMLE.org that they are going to add different kind of questions and changed the number of questions coming in CK for all those taking the exam in August 3rd... so if you take the exam in August 3 or after your result won't be out till September 28th.. That means you won't certified till October 10th!

Thanks. I know. It's posted all over the place that results are going to be delayed. I don't really have much of a choice though everyone's scrambling to get test spots at the end of July and I already have a date in August. I'm going to study hard and if I have at least 2 NBME's predicting a good score, I'm going to give the exam. I don't want to waste a year so I'm just going to apply this year. The question is just whether I'm going to apply without my CK score or wait until the end of September to get my score and get certified and apply in beg/mid October.

I would really like some advice. I don't know how it will be for me if I were to take the exam in September. Does it mean that I will not get certified this year? or that it is way too late to even consider applying for match to get IVs? Can someone please advice? Thanks.
