USMLE Scores Disheartened with Step 2 results

Hi all,

I am a step-1 99er, 99/237 last december...today I got my CK results and thought I should share with you..

It's average, 213/90...And now I feel completely lost, I feel that I don't wanna continue and I feel that everthing has stopped..

Even other countries that accept USMLE scores for their residencies won't accept such a low score..and after I saw how the match went this year I feel more and more low..

I don't want to apply to FM/Ped/Psych and I never even had them as an option, (with all due respect - of course - to all my fellow residents or anyone related to those specialties, I just don't find myself within those fields)...

I don't know why I am writing this, I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me and I don't want to throw my sadness upon anyone, I just dunno somewhere else to say those words..

Thank you and wishing you all the best on your path wherever you are.

I don't see any reason for you to feel disheartened. One of my seniors from med school matched in IM this year(2011) at a very decent program with step 1/2CK/3 scores of 99/89/86 with 4 months' externship/observership experience. And this is just one of the many examples of people with low scores being successful in getting into residency. Just try to pass the CS exam on your 1st attempt and get some US clinical experience (externships/observerships) and you should be fine.

Traditionally programs weigh Step 1 a lot heavier than Step 2.

For American grads at least, Step 2 is just seen as something we need to pass and if we did score poorly on Step 1, then it's an opportunity to redeem ourselves. But if we did well on Step 1, we don't put any pressure on ourselves to do well for Step 2.... It used to be that students didn't even complete Step 2 before residency interviews....

I look really bad not replying to this thread for so long, but life has really carried me on..
I Decided to apply for CS and continue what I started, and I even started practice the past few days. But I dunno why, I still has something inside me telling me that it's not that easy..
I am an IMG, grad 2008, still no research or USCE, and if I decide to join the match it would be next year 2012/2013, and now I have a Step 2 CK 90 score??
What else is missing to stop the dream?
I know many things can happen before next year's match, but -to be honest-, I now feel afraid of the CS too! And I am afraid for my people who trust me, and my money, and my efforts...etc.
Any advice or guidance is extremely appreciated, and you have all my thanks & respect in advance.

Hello man... when I decided to come here I was not aware of how difficult it is for IMG to get a decent residency program in which we can give all our potential. Nobody said it was easy. It is a long and very difficult journey and all of us have some problems to resolve first in order to accomplish our goals, just keep the pace, do it one step at one time, if this is your dream, you will succeed. Good luck.
