Clock Time needed for IMGs to prepare for Step 2 CK

In addition to voting in the poll above please post your reply with details so that we get a grasp of the real situation.

Please note that this poll and thread is for graduates (mainly IMG Grads) and not for medical students. For medical students please see this poll Time needed for medical students to prepare for the CK Exam

Please follow this format (which is a true example of my CK experience)

Time needed: 5 Months
Average study hours per day: Six
Scored: 239/99 (u can leave blank if you don't want to tell)
Years since graduation at time of test: 3 years

Also check these links for the other steps

Dear Aisha,

I too had the same problem and confusion....but its not a big deal ....
you just need to know some pathology, pharmacology and to the least anatomy stuff.
you will learn those things while you read Kaplan and mainly during ur USMLE world work out.... or if not ur satisfied still.....I can give u another solution read mechanism of action and side effects of important drugs in those books u have learned during ur preclinical curriculum daily for an hour as far as u can, that will do and help a lot.

In short do as best u can, people will try to confuse you as much as possible...let the positive ideas dwell in you...

Unhappy HOW ?!!!!!!!!!!

Just an important question that keeps haunting me.
HOW IN THE WORLD can anybody finish the CK in 4 months or less & get 99 ??????.
I'm working on CK myself now & I'm telling you guys,it's no picnic, there are a lot of stuff to memorize,a lot of lap values & other stuff that just takes a long time just to read, not memorize, just read plus the videos,C'mon 4 months, really?
Besides,I have offline UW questions ,so after I'm done with a system in IM for example the Cardiovascular,I study the offline question of the Cardio which are over 130 questions,I realized that the questions are totally different from the stuff mentioned in kaplan & first-aid,a lot of stuff are not even mentioned in the notes & asked about in UW.
So,please somebody answer me this,WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? CAUSE TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE INTERNAL MEDICINE ALONE IS GONNA TAKE 4 MONTHS

I think it's important to register in ECFMG early because it takes time for IMGs to get registered.

Default Step 2 CK preparation

I am an IMG from Europe. It took me 6 months to prepare and I got 212. I did not study all 6 months constantly. Probably 4 months is enough study time. All I used was Master the Boards Step 2 CK and USMLE World Q Bank. I read the book 3 times. I did all of the questions 2 times and then I did all of the incorrect questions. This is the best forum on the net. Just stick to all of the threads on USMLE-Forums and you will be fine for sure, that is what I did and that is why I am posting my experience. Good Luck!

I agree completely. It is best to get atleast 6 months of preparation for the exam. Even 7-8 months for certain students. It took me 6 months of intense study.

After passing Step 1, it should take no more than 4-8 weeks unless you are rotating. If you are rotating, 8-12 weeks would be more ideal just to make sure.
