Unhappy Feeling Awful after Taking CS Exam

Hi guys,

I just finished my CS exam today. I must tell you it was a horrible experience I feel so depressed now, I think I failed this one. This exam is testing you to handle pressure very well. You have to think and act fast and having a good English skills will help you a lot on this exam....at least you don't have to struggle in communicating your message. I will probably fail on SEP component.... I think it's very important to practice CS with a native speaker if you're not very fluent in English. Sometimes the SPs spoke very fast and I couldn't pick up the words that they said to me. I have to ask them to repeat it and sometimes I need to clarify what they have said.

Oh Gosh I am glad it's done....at least now I can start preparing for CK. Just move one....there's nothing I can do now expect praying that I will pass this exam. CS is tough and no one should take this lightly.

Hey harles, congrats on taking the exam regardless of what you think you did. I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations, but may be it all went well and you'll pass! Remember that it's a pass/fail exam, and you don't need to perfect everything to pass. I wish you best of luck with the result!

I wonder what you used to prepare, and did you use CSEvideo?

Hi Haisook,
For the past 4 weeks, I used First Aid for Step 2CS, CSE video, USMLE World Step 2CS and Neeraj Notes to prepare for this exam. I had 3 Live Study Partner, and we practiced days and nights to prepare for this exam. I've been working very hard for this and it will be really frustrating if I end up failing this exam. Well....I do hope it went well...but really I have no idea now. I wonder how does everyone feel after taking CS ? Do they feel the same way as I do ?

Good luck for your CS exam Haisook !!!

Default The same

i Had the same feeling as u and i really feel that i will not pass it .i also feel that my hand writing was horrible and i can not read what i wrote. also no single counter i had the feeling that i did it even 90% . but look when i have asked all my IMGs whom passed the cs, they all said that's normal feeling and as u feel u will fail that's a good indicator that u really know what u have to do so most properly u did and u will pass and on the other side whom said that it's an easy exam they mostly did not know exactly what they have to do so they mostly fail. I feel the same feeling as u and waiting with the same killing anxiety........ Best wishes for both of us

Hmm..not really, I've been living in US for the past 6 months and never had any difficulties communicating with people around me. Just occasionally I have "native speaker" anxiety ....I always feel unconfident if I talk to native speaker....then I start mumbling and stuttering... dunno why

Probably a few days practice with a native speaker will help me a lot to build confidence during the exam.

These are the mistakes that I did on my CS exam :
1. forgot to record the result of cardiac ascultation in one patient note (it was necessary)
2. forgot to ask family history in one case
3. forgot to mention pelvic exam during closure in one case
4. never asked CAGE questions (I dont know if it's necessary because most SPs drink only 1-2 beers on weekend)
5. forgot to do abdominal examination in one case (it was necessary)
6. forgot to ask delivery history when it was very important to rule out some differential diagnosis
7. asked one SP to repeat his answer because I couldn't pick up what he said (it was too fast for me)
8. didn't give enough empathy to one patient with some personal problem in their life
9. did mistake when summarizing patient's history in two cases (the patients corrected some points in my summary )
10. forgot to put the vital sign in one patient note

That's what I can think of now, there will be more coming up......ahhh...I think will fail this exam

Cool

dude, most of my friends felt the same way when they gave it. I thought I did do okay but when you play it back in your head you realize that there is soo much you missed out. Hang in there, it probably went fine, as you have the same feeling as most people who I know (who passed) did...I had this friend who missed out on doing full exams, did partial exams on 3/4 cases and he passed. I myself had not completed the full exams in some cases, and in some (as in CVS) though had done the pertinent CVS exam, forgot to record on PN...was relieved to see the pass score. And as someone said, you dont need to be perfect on this one...dont worry...on to the next!

Hey Cheer up man!
NOBODY remembers 100% of what they need to ask and examine and NOBODY remembers to record in the PN 100% of the things they asked and examined in the encounter.

Remember: the pass mark is not 100%...
