Default Observership/US experience necessary for CS?

Hi. I am an Indian IMG.
I am going to take Step 2 CS very soon.

I have an option to take the exam both before and after my observership.
I will also take a 3 day live course.

Is it necessary or preferrable to have US hospital experience or observership before sitting for CS?

Expecting some help here

Hey,

I passed in June at Philadelphia center, my first contact with US patients (or SP) was in the exam, I did not take any prep course.

I only prepared for 2 weeks with good live study partner and FA 4th edition.

But my study partner took kaplan course which was helpful to me.

The exam was easy, I don't think you need US experience, you only need to prepare for the exam experience, but that is only my opinion.

Good luck.

You dont need it. But it could help. During your observership you could find study partners and/or people willing to help you or give you advise.

Hi One11! Can you please share your CS experience at Philadelphia. I have been planning to also take CS in Philly because it's the nearest for me (I am living in Maryland) but reading some negative post makes me think twice. But Philadelphia will be more convenient and cost effective as far as I am concerned. Thank you in advance for your reply. Really appreciate it.

Hey,

I also heard the rumors about Philadelphia, but I was living close to Philadelphia so it was nearly impossible for me to travel 3 hours by plane for another center. I strongly believe the exam is standardized everywhere. There were around 6 IMG among 24 total examinee. I did not face any problem what so ever, the SPs were professional.

The exam was really fair and straightforward. FA and practicing full cases with live partner should prepare you well for the exam.

Good luck.

I also took it in Philadelphia. Its just like any other center I guess. Its easy to get by metro as well.

What were your concerns? Why is Phily testing center badly reviewed?

I have read a lot of post that Philadelphia center is not IMG friendly and a lot of IMG takers failed on that center. But then, my friends who are already practicing doctors here in US took their CS exam in Philadelphia re assured me that all centers are the same and it's not the center but the takers overall performance that will make you pass or fail. Thank you so much.
