Question Failed Step 2 CS Attempt!

hello .... I'm a new member here but i want to thank everyone for their great effort , this is really the best USMLE forum
I'm an IMG graduated 2010 ... i have a question about CS attempts , i failed cs last year ... i don't know why , i was surprised it was the first time i fail an exam in my whole life (other than the driving license exam ) honestly i thought about discontinuing my exams and just give up ! but thanks god i found my pathway again and decided to take step 2 ck ... thanks gad i got 99/267 ... then i took the cs again this year and guess what i passed this time ... so the idea is never give up !!

now i have a question about CS attempts will that affect my chances in the match ? i read in this forum and other forums that USMLE attempts are really bad thing for the application ... is that true ?

Arrow Bad but not devastating

Certainly a second attempt in the CS is a bad point in your profile. But you can ameliorate the effect by getting super high scores (as I can see you did in the CK) and by doing USCE and getting LoRs and making connections with residency programs.

Second attempt CS is bad but it's not devastating, I mean still there were people matched despite the second attempt.

Connections, means you get to know attendings and residents and they will then try to talk to the program coordinator and program director to influence to send you for an interview when you apply for the match.

For further details please read here
How do I make Connections to get into residency?
