Republic of Georgia Excelled on Step 2 CS - My Experience and Advice.

Guys , the ultimate time to Inspire many Step 2 CS applicants has come :

To tell you the least, I can be referred as an expert in this Exam for i managed to read all of the books available on-line!
I am the FMG from Republic of Georgia ; Just yesterday i received the Step 2 cs report and found out that i passed this Step with decent performance in all subcomponents.
Why am I starting this thread - just to let you know that it is possible to pass the Step 2 CS with the following mistakes:
-In 3 cases I had no time to make full physical Exam (just a very few manipulations) and neither had a time to make any closure! - don't underestimate these 3 cases i met on exam though ( i can tell you a lot of tricky things which appeared on these cases) - i just don't want to justify myself - there is no time for that .I need to explain my experience first of all.
Guys I am talking about the 3 cases !
-In fourth case i didn't manage to guess the most popular number one diagnosis ; although I guessed number 2 and 3 diagnoses for that case .
- The rest of the things i did brilliantly on exam , i want to assure you.

So ,guys, few tips which will guide you through this exam:

-Kaplan School - The friend of mine had used their services and told me completely different things about the way they advise you to do the certain things(physical exam, in particular) right after the actual exam which both of has had on the same day , - so, at that particular moment I got demolished and smashed by these words , to tell you the least.
I have started to think about the complete fiasco on the Exam.
Guess what- I have passed - with very decent performance!
-How to prepare :
I have used 1) CSE videos - one must use all the tricks which physician from these videos does!!!!!!!extremely powerful tool for self -education 2) USMLEWORLD 3)First Aid for Step 2 CS 4)Kaplan -Core Cases new edition and the old one + 5) Cythar Step 2 cs -the very old book
-Used bullet-type PN
-HPI , then allergies -> meds -> PMH -> PSH -> SH-> Ob/Gyn (if necessary) -> FH
For pediatric cases used BDID in addition -> Birth , Diet, Immunization, Development
-> Kaplan Core Cases use Just one word for the Pediatric History -PEDs .
- Practice, Practice and Practice!!!!!!A lot !Teach your relatives how to act , teach the jackass , teach the chicken ,but don't go on exam without the practice, unless you are experienced US -based Top Senior Student of Harvard Medical School, may be -))))

My strong sides on Exam :
- I knew all kind of Diagnoses just from the very first glance except of one case , in which i still managed to type in at least less popular options in the PN section.
-Managed to provide all of the 3 possible diagnoses which were at least rational !- in majority of these cases i managed to fulfill the PN section with the excellent differential diagnoses.Needless to say that I filled at least 5 lines for Work-up in each case.
-My physical exam in the rest of the cases was focused.
- CIS - this was my yummy-yummy section . I knew all the tricks on exam - at least, the majority of them..-)))).But again, listen to these lady doctor from the CSE videos and read the books extremely thoroughly- don't omit any single line- i am talking especially about the IMGs!
-SEP - if you can't speak English well this exam will be stressful for you, 99% of it!
But don't worry SP are very friendly !!!It is just you who will be stressed when inevitably see a puzzled faces of the SPs - so you may eventually lose the focus - you lose the main line for 2-3 min in this exam and you will bombard it.

I am very busy for this period but will try to answer your questions ,guys!

All the Best.
P.S. My ECFMG Certificate also arrives soon.

By the way, I can tutor on-line by SKYPE any person for some reasonable sum of money , of course. Of course, I will show you my ECFMG certificate in advance in case if you would like to be tutored. I don't want to appear too cocky but I know hundreds and may be thousands of tricks for each 99% of all cases on exam - I have memorized over 300 differentials and mini-cases from 5 books and on-line sources -all with their respective work-up and PE , CIS tricks, including the Ped cases!!!

You are Rock! Congratulations on getting the best ever valuable document - called ECFMG - Certificate !!!

Definitely you can teach us!!!

I have a question → because you're expert

I used these up and down arrows in my PN: ↑ ↓ and ♂ ♀ - is that alright?
I also prepared independently covering all sources you mentioned except the "old one" and last week before exam went to Kaplan CS course preparation → which totally demolished my confidence after I failed their Mock Exam: with two Psychotic Cases.

Anyway, Kaplan has the different approach - How were your friend's results? Has she passed, I assume she used Kaplan Techniques - Additional Triple AAA - questions: How was her/his CIS portion?

Thanks very much in advance!

The best of luck in ERAS - which will open June 24/2015 !!!

Thanks for your kind words!
Regarding THESE particular symbols : I would advise you to use increased// decreased or f /m ; regarding the last one - it is commonly used . I would tell that I have heard of people passing this Step using this symbols; there is a rule on step 2 CS don't use ambiguous signs/symbols.!Never ever.!
You failed Psychotic Cases - mostly that happens for PE/Data gathering or CIS portion - I guess you just need the specific training. USE CSE videos- they are almighty!-)
I don't know the results of my friend -cause he haven't send me his score release yet. I am starting to think that things are not going well for him-(((.
Remeber the CSE videos, please. Consider them strongly.
Kaplan has different approach , for sure! I have never ever used their services ,but know enough about their methods, and triple AAA and so on.
DO following things on Exam:
Focused PE, Gather all the data and provide strong Diagnoses; fill the PN in bullet-style - most highly approved ! and don't mess up this specific order which i have mentioned up there.

CIS - again empathy, NEVER INTERRUPT, smile when appropriate, never leave without attention, greet for good information, explain sorrow for negative one; thank a SP for assistance; make summary in each case and never rush a SP;there are tons of other things which one should perform to score higher - but closure is the crucial component for that exam - along with consultation; you can consult immediately ,by the way, not waiting for the end of the case!!

If you have any other questions - please ask.

Hope you will pass,!

Congratulations on your success.... I have recently started preparing for cs... I have a question about the physical exam... What they mean by a FOCUSED exam... Does it mean for e.g if we get an abdominal pain case should we only exam the abdomen and not auscultate the heart and lungs....
Thanks in advance

Fire Thread

Hey, Irakli

Thanks much for your response - very sorry if something went wrong with your friend - who actually took the Kaplan & it is extremely disappointing if he failed, because initially I was well trained by FA - strategy, like answering to challenging questions, giving a conclusion/closure/counseling → however, it turns to be not enough to pass Kaplan Mock Exam - that I have failed CIS portion as I said before. In Kaplan, we were told FA is a little obsolete - things are little changed recently

Example: I took the exam in following order: 3 cases → 10 ' break → 3 cases 30 ' lunch break → 3 cases again 10 ' break → 3 cases and over.

Before that, I didn't know about these change - so what was the order of breaks you had
Another point → SP was initially trained to answer that triple AAA questions - because otherwise they could not be answering these questions so precisely - this I really felt during the exam.

I never watched CSV - videos completely because never liked how that woman instructor is short green skirts acts - robotic type questions, generic empathy & periodically looks to the paper what's the next question to ask. Perhaps, they were the old videos. Maybe updated new ones are better. Now it is pointless to discuss it.

Please, let me know how your friend acted. Followed Kaplan or not.

In general = Победителей не судьять - you're the Winner!

The best of luck in ERAS too.

Congrats bigtime IrakliTodua!

Thanks for sharing your inspiring successful story, and for sharing some tips! I currently have only FA and have just started studying, but I will definitely include CSE videos, UW and Kaplan Core Cases. I'm planning to take the CS this fall (Sept or Oct).

My question is: how long did you study for the exam? I know some people who studied for 2-3 weeks, while some for as long as four months. How about you?

Again congratulations!!! Time to celebrate!!!
