Question No CS between May 20-June 16?!

Hey!

I passed my Step 1 and I have now scheduled my CK for mid-April.I was planning for my CS in either May or June. I just read that there won't be CS between the aforementioned dates. Will there be a new system introduced? Can anyone suggest me when to schedule my exam, May 18 or June 25 (these are the 2 dates I have in mind). Also, if I take my exam on 25th June, it says that my score reporting will begin from Oct 3-30 October. Will I be eligible to apply for the 2013 Match ?

Help shall be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

You don't need your step CS to apply on September 1st 2012 (for 2013 match) but you need your result before Januaury 2013 to be able to join the NRMP system, so don't worry about the timing. Schedule your exam according to your level of preparation regardless of dates but I would advice you to take it before the new system is implicated as it may be more tough.

Thanks! Does that mean that I should take my Step 3 before January 2013 as well?! Can you please also guide me that how many months of USCE should we have before January 2013 to apply? Should we work with one doctor or work with different doctors and thus increase our LORs? I will be going to US in May for my CS and will get married then. I plan to go for USCE in July (won't be possible before that due to my wedding).I really need help with this..:sorry:

If you are seeking H1B visa, your step 3 result should be out at the time you sign the contract otherwise you will get J1 visa.

For USCE the average people do 2-3 month (with 2-3 LORs) but many people can afford only 1 month and that is ok. If you are doing one month only then rounding with one doctor is sufficient. Some people round with 2 doctors but the problem is that the writer may write "time not sufficient to fully evaluate bla bla bla".

Make sure you get your LOR by the first week of August as it will take 2-3 weeks for the ERAS to upload it and hence you will need it to be ready by September 1st to send your application.

Oh thank you sooo much! :sorry:But please can you guide me further when is the ideal time that I should take my Step 3. I have no idea when these contracts are signed and all thus I am looking for a safe time slot to go for it.

Also does this sound fine to you that I take my CS in May, gather USCE for the month of July with one doctor, August processing for the LOR etc.,Sept I apply. And should I still continue doing USCE for August onwards or should I stop and study for the Step 3 at home (following one month of USCE) ?

I know I am bugging you so much but I honestly don't have a clue about this stuff. I reallllly appreciate your help!:sorry:

When you are done with USCE in July, start actively preparing for step 3, you don't need any more observerships.

3-4 months is enough for prep forstep 3 especially if you are recently (at that time) done with ck, then it depends how long you will stay in the states, I guess Nov. to Dec will be ok for the exam.

Well we all know that the competition has increased so how can you say that 1 month of observership will be enough???

@heman466s
The more USCE you have the better chances, what I meant is that when USCE is a reuirement and you have only 1 month then it it is the minimum enough accepted by PDs usually.

Many people who I coach yearly apply even with only step 1 result in hand and they do get interviews. The goal for people with "incomplete app" is to get all there scores by the end of Dec-mid January to be considered in the match. Incomplete app is uausally referred to apps with incomplete documents.
