When did you take your exam?
got an email at 8:45 (I was waiting with opening it cause I was so scared lol).

You can also go now to IWA and try to register for step 2 cs.
I did it before looking at pdf and it showed me:
Our files indicate that you have already passed the step2 cs exam.

Try this way!

Passed!!! So happy. I'm still stunned and can't believe. Thank God!

Email came at 1050 AM said it would be available after 11 am. Actually available at 1102 AM (refreshed like crazy).

I made a lot of mistakes so maybe this will help people in the future who were just as worried as I was and found some comfort in others errors who also passed. First, I got very high performance in SEP and CSE. My performance in CIS was middle of the passing range (no X's touching borderline).

1) I didn't summarize for almost all the cases. I summarized once because I wanted to make sure I understood what the person was talking about but it wasn't intentional.

2) I counseled in almost every case but there was one case when I definitely should have (drug use) but somehow just didn't.

3) I had one SP who was really ticked off with a response I had to a question and I never really got her to calm down. Maybe that was the point?

4) Another SP was shocked when I gave him the list of possible diagnoses and I tried to offer comfort but that also didn't seem to help.

5) I forgot A LOT on the physical exams that probably should have been done, like checking the thyroid when hypothyroidism was on the differential.

6) In the notes, I only listed 2 differentials on 2 of the cases. I really think this was because any other differential would have been a big stretch

7) Note wise, I never listed ROS as a section but I put a list of pertinent negatives at the end of my HPIs. Considering how well I did on ICE, I assume that this is completely acceptable although it was some I was retroactively really worried about!

8) I looked down A LOT during my interview because I was nervous and was writing stuff down. Probably hurt my CIS score. Would recommend to try to avoid that.

9) Left one room with literally 8 minutes left. This worried me a lot but it turned out fine. I finished the note like 2 minutes into the note writing time! It was a short case and she had zero history. This may also have been a test case so I don't know.

10) I didn't tell the SPs about any sensitive exams that I then ordered on the note.

11) I didn't ask any woman about her OB/gyn history. I kept seeing this on the forums and it freaked me out. The only time I asked about last menstrual period was when pregnancy was in my actual differential. I didn't even ask that SP about prior pregnancies.

12) There were at least 2 cases where I had NO idea what they had. I just tried to come up with a reasonable differential. I think these cases are meant to be vague.

13) All my patients already had a drape over their legs when I walked in. This made me nervous because everyone says you're supposed to drape. It was totally fine.

I always shook hands, greeted by name, and washed my hands (with the sanitizer). I always asked OPQRST for the complaint and did past medical history (not hospitalizations), past surgeries, meds including OTC and herbals, allergies to meds, sexual history (literally just asked if they were sexually active. if they said yes, i asked about condoms and counseled if needed- didn't ask about sexual preference), alcohol use (CAGE'ed every one who drank more than 1 drink a day, counseled if it was like >7/week for women, >14 for men), and tobacco use. Asked about drugs 4/12 times or so. I always told the SP 2-3 diagnoses and stated that we would do x tests afterwards to narrow it down, asked if there were any questions. I always had at least 2-3 justifications for my differentials on my notes.

This test drove me absolutely crazy! The amount of anxiety everyone feels is amazingly high. If you're in this position, I know there isn't much to offer you comfort, but I wish you the best of luck and hope that my experience has helped you!

Congrats!!!
I can see that your mistakes were almost like mine! (except for lack of counseling in my case:P).

I also have a very similar performance. ICE is in the middle, probably due to lack of medical language once in while and putting some unreasonable diagnoses.

Congrats!!!

Default anybody failed due to CIS

I never thought I would fail in CIS. My exam went fine except the kind of mistakes you guys mentioned here. The only thing I can remember that I called the patient by their First Name like I said Mr /Mrs ? May be I could have elaborated more the d/d s with them.

Can it be such a mistake that make me fail the test ..I was nice empathetic with all of them, I can remember most of the patient were really smiling with me at the end of the encounter . My step 1 and 2 scores are way above average then .I had so much plans and was eagerly waiting to be ECFMG certified this year. Now, I am doomed

My sympathies. It's such a subjective exam. I wasn't worried at all about CIS but it's what I scored lowest in. Apparently it's what IMGs fail the most. Get through it, do step 3 as well and apply. I'm sure you'll do it.

Thanks for your kind reply.Communication skills is something that has been my personal strength and I usually never feel awkward and feel frozen talking with unknown people and there had been many instances where I Just sat and talked to an old lady in a mall or in Restaurants and talked for hours .I am recently shadowing a very prominent physician in the city and she was completely floored by my result and said she did not feel I have any issues in my communication skills and showing empathy. But, what has happened has happened .... I please, request all to give me a list of common mistakes that can lead to CIS failure.

Please, give me some tips or mention some pitfalls I was not aware of.

Default Passed CS!

I know that I should have posted earlier since I got my score back 3 weeks ago, but was busy prepping for ck. I passed as well, Thank God. Took the exam in Atlanta and came out shell-shocked; however, all ended well.
