Thank you for making this! I took the exam on May 18 in Philly and now, after (probably stupidly) reading hundreds of posts, I have convinced myself that I have failed and killed my chances for a competitive residency spot. It seems unpredictable if you fail/pass based on what I've been reading so here's hoping that we all find out that we passed on June 24 (and hope not much later!)

I was reading about what it means if your scheduling permit link disappears? There is no consistency. I logged in and there isn't even a link to my permit. It sounds dumb, but is that a sign I failed? Can someone please check theirs to see if it gone? In the "Permit Available Date" Column, it has the date and nothing under it (for the CS row). My CK row has the date and the link for the permit though.

You're welcome! I took the exam on May 15 in Philly too. It's so long waiting for results that it's hard to not keep going over the whole thing several times before the results come out. Don't worry, I'm sure you did fine. Yes, hopefully June 24 will be the day, or by July 8 (third Wednesday) the absolute, nerve-racking latest.

No, I don't think that means you failed. Mine was gone too shortly after the exam. Similarly so for CK and Step 1, which I passed. I think it just means that they know you've taken the exam.

I'll share my mistakes
1) Didn't put supporting negatives under the DDs. I thought you didn't need it. For example, I didn't write stuff like no chest wall tenderness as support for angina.
2) Forgot to ask ob/gyn history in one case. It wasn't really warranted.
3) Had no clue what was wrong with the patient in one case.
4) Finished one case right at the end of closing. So I didn't have time for the important question.
Those are the glaring things that I remember. I always introduced myself, asked an open ended question at the start, used transition phrases and direct questions for ROS, washed hands, draped patients, summarized at the end of the history, closed and asked if there were any questions in all but one case. I also finished all the PNs on time. I felt OK coming out but since then I'm getting more and more nervous to the point of being uncertain of even passing.

OK, here I go:
1) I didn't make a habit of using pertinent negatives either, although I may have used them here and there if it occurred to me to do so.
2) I also missed asking about OBGYN or did not ask it thoroughly in a case.
3)Didn't feel like I really knew what was going on with maybe the first three SPs in terms of diagnosis.
4) Finished the cases on time, leaving one feeling like I missed the diagnosis but couldn't really do much about it.
I tried to ask about the pertinent system and other relevant ones and get the PMH in each case, though I missed bits and pieces sometimes. I also checked the pertinent system on physical exam, as well as heart and lungs and one other in all cases except one. I would greet, introduce, wash, summarize, counsel, close, and ask about questions or concerns more than once.
Hang in there, sounds like you did fine!

I'm with you guys!
I made tons of mistakes and really, really, really praying for a good outcome.
I'm an IMG but English is not a problem.
I just didn't counsel 2 times (maybe even 3 - i don't know if I had to in one case).
I don't remember if I summarized (if I did, I did it half way through the history taking) and also many minor mistakes...

For some reason I consistently forgot to ask menstrual h/o and profession.
I also had 1 pt I didn't really focus on getting into a real problem... She was weird.

Any ideas how they grade it?

Damn, I'm so scared!

There are threads on here that better explain the score breakdown but my understanding is that the CIS and SEP marks come from the SP and the ICE component from the Physician Examiner based on your notes.

It sounds like you did more or less like the rest of us. Should be okay.

Good luck!

Waiting too. Anyone know anyone who safely made it if one of their notes was missing entire work up or PE section and rest of notes were fine?

Good luck!
I can't stop analyzing!
Ugh.. It's like constant: I didn't counsel on this, I forgot this, I didn't recognize all emotions there and all this stuff.

I hope it's gonna be ok!

I've read a lot of threads in which people were missing many more in their PN and they were fine.
honestly, if it was your only mistake I envy you.
I finished all the notes but missed a lot, I'm sure.

So interesting finding.
A) our schools are given our exam grades for all steps at 8 am while we are made to wait

B) worse- our schools are told when our expected CS release date is, not the range that we all are given.

Source- knowledge management office at my school.

Well...I'm not sure.
I keep reading forums and most people seem to ask this and "if you could tell me what you think it's happening, what would it be?"

I was nice, empathetic, I asked in the end if they had qs, I answered their qs, tried to be natural and nice...
But i definitely missed point on asking private stuff like their lives etc.

I honestly don't know if you can pass it without it.

Can you tell me what you normally asked?

I stuck to FA. Summarized at the end of history and counselled as soon as I identified something. Gave my impression at the end and asked if there were any questions for me. I don't see how asking the patients impression is essential to passing. I'm super screwed if it is.

First of all, don't panic. I'm sure you are fine. You did way better than I did.
I didn't mean to scare you. I just made a mistake and looked around and read forums.

People were saying that in order to build the patient-doctor relationship and partnership you gotta ske them their impression, what they think they have and stuff.

I was really nice. I showed empathy and spoke slowly, asked open eded questions. I think only one time I was kinda flustered/.

I didn't have many cases to counsel (I forgot to do this 3 times ( ) but if I did, I did it right away.

I asked them 2 times if they had any questions.
So, when I left the exam I thought my huge problem was mainly lack of summarization (I did it somewhere half way through, not all the time).

Now I think that despite being a concerned physician I flunked.

I'm sorry I scared you.
I really don't know if it's mandratory.

Ugh. This is so stupid!
I'm very comfortable with patients but really, asking how is your kidney stone (for example) affecting your life?
It hurts, dude. That's it.

This summary thing... I have no idea how I missed it. I read FA many times yet I missed it.

Let's just wait... 2 more days... (not even).

I know. It doesn't seem particularly natural, which is why I didn't do it
I had read that 11 am is the hour we hear? Is that correct? or is it more like noon?

Wasn't my only mistake by a long shot.. but def the one thats burning a hole in the back of my brain. Your guys worries seem so minimal in comparison haha Id like to say I'd be much less worried if I was in your position.

Please does anyone know if it's possible to log into the patient notes without typing the badge id into the system? I am paranoid that I didn't type my badge id for some cases. Thanks

I don't think you can login the patient note without the badge id. I remember we have to input the id before we go to the patient note. So don't worry about that.

We definitely did not have to type my badge into the computer. It was already up when I got out of my room with my name at the top. The staff at our center (Philly) did it for us when the rooms changed over.

I looked it up and the only thing I can say: chill!

You didn't fill out a part of one PN, it's really not that bad.
You have 12 encounters! It's a lot to make it up.

I didn't summarize and forgot to counsel on 2 cases that deff needed it (or maybe even 3).

Not to mention, I also have mistakes here and there..

You will be fine.

Oh, sorry. I don't know there is a difference between centers. I think you do not need to worry about that since the staff already did that for you. I took it in Atlanta. I needed to input my ID every time before I typed the patient note. Let's wait one more day.

Thanks everyone, just want to be sure that the patient note is not accessible without typing the badge ID . With that then I must have typed my badge id.

Guys, I have a question.
Do you have to counsel on every patient?
Even the ones who don't smoke/drink alcohol/take drugs/no diabetes?

Well, I know I made mistakes cause I did not do this when it was mandratory but now Im thinking maybe it was mandratory everywhere

Default Having Nightmares!

Scared to death right now. Took the exam on the 13th of April so I don't remember much of my mistakes by now except the glaring ones, like running out of time on one case and failing to diagnose one case which i was fairly certain by the time i finished the note was Malingering. Ah well. Did many things right, did many things wrong. But I still feel I failed. Just another 24 hours or less and we'll know what the future holds, happiness or the misery of having to study for this exam again. Good luck everyone. I hope and pray for all of us to pass!

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone passes and I wish you all the best. Just a quick question...Does anyone know if USMLE Step 2 CS, clinical skills that is, has a grading curve. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what what you mean by grading curve. It is a pass or fail exam. Although the score report has the ability to distinguish high performance in any of the three cardinal categories I am not sure this has any value beyond giving feedback to the examinee.

Good evening Vfibulator,

Oh yeah, what I meant by curve was if the number of people not passing is high, then I wonder if they increase the number of points on their system to increase the number of passers due to possible difficulty of the exam on that specific day. Just asking. No worries. I know what you mean though. Pardon my question as it may sound a bit ambiguous considering this exam is only a pass/fail. Anyways I hope you rock that test my friend. My prayers are for you and everybody here !!!!!!

Good evening to you too medical 101 and thanks for the clarification. I totally don't know the answer to that question. My apologizies for not having more useful information to offer and for my lack of understanding on the grading curve concept. I do know what you mean about the possibility of some people getting tougher exams than others, and the idea of taking that into account. Best of luck to you too my friend and hope to hear the good news of your success!!!

Yeah, no worries....Thanks for the well wishes !!!! The day before the test and the day before the results are equal with respect to not knowing the unknown. The only difference is that on one you can actually do something about it and prep extra. The other, one can't do a darn thing but wait :/ But yeah I hope this waiting game is over for all of us tomorrow with nothing but success !! God bless.

Does anyone have a date listed under "Score Report Date" column? I don't but it could be that it doesn't actually show up until 11 am (eastern standard time)
Can anyone else now apply again for CS???? I can now apply. It no longer says I can't because I have an open registration. Does this mean I failed???
