Question Do we need full history in each case

hi, i wanted to know if it is necessary to ask PAM HUGS FOSS in all cases? i mean i was doing a case of motor vehicle accident in severe chest pain and breathlessness with my partner (totally lay person- non medical background) and asked him abt sexual history , he said it makes no sense. even i felt so ...and forget counseling for social history for a person in such a severe pain....

what is to be done...????

Full history (including social and sexual history) is warranted in any CS case regardless of the patient's backgrounds.

If the patient says (it makes no sense) you have to explain for him the reason why you are asking.

Tell him/her that you can't make a diagnosis and therefore you can't help him/her unless you know all the aspects of his/her illness. Apologize for the delay and tell him that you will help him/her immediately after you finish the history and physicals.

So suppose the patient in severe pain after a MVA , smokes 1ppd for 35 yrs , we counsel him immediately? I feel in real life we don't do that, we might do it in a follow up session and adress the immediate concern of patient who is very SOB...

Yes. Just mention quickly, that you'll arrange for an appointment later on to discuss that issue then move on to the rest of the history.

But don't miss it. These SPs will follow a check list of items after you leave the room.
