Question Asking the SP to sit up while taking history

If the patient was lying in bed when we enter the room, after introduction, calming-down patient and showing compassion, shall we always ask the patient to sit up and then start taking history? Or we should remain patient in a supine position during history taking?

Most of the SPs will be sitting up on the couch when you enter the room. Only those SPs who are in ER setting might lying on the couch usually when they are sick like having acute abdomen for example.

In such cases you don't ask them to sit up (never do that), just take as much history as you can while they are supine and proceed to physicals.
