When is the the rank order list done?

Meaning when is the very last time we can apply before you will NOT get any interviews since they are done with screening applicants?

Stay positive and get a date asap... everything is still doable just don't lose site of your goals.

Hello coronary,

I am so sorry to hear about your CS result however I know some people who had a CS failure and still matched into IM and Surgery so it's not the end of the world. You will just need to work harder and compensate for that in your CV. The most imp thing now is to sit down and be honest with yourself and figure out what went wrong. It's crucial that you don't rush and take the CS when u r t ready for it again. You probably don't have a chance in this year's match so it doesn't make sense for you to rush with the CS. A second failure can be catastrophic for you.

Tell us more about your preparation for ur first attempt.Ur timing and typing so we can help you more with it.

Good Luck

hi,thank you so much to reply, i did not practice during my first attempt so i have already stared my practice, i am working on my patient notes as well and the clinical encounter as i failed in ICE part. But i did not want to miss my chance for this year.. I Am working hard on my Cs studies. AS i also know that its my only chance. Everyone is saying no chance for this yrs match for i need advice from someone who knows that has also gone through same situation as mine and got an interview after applying late and through some contacts as well....

Hey coronary!
I am sorry to hear that. I just went through the same phase. Didnt pass ICE, took my exam in july, failed it by the narrowest possible margin. Retook in early october. Result will be declared in december. I have applied to programs but havnt gotten a single IV so far because of my incomplete application perhaps. Scores of 250+ in step 1 and 235+ in CK.
My advice: Practise patient note and physical exams. Dont waste so much time on history taking. They dont grade you on history taking anymore (something i didnt know before my first attempt). Gather the information you need for writing a comprehensive history (LIQORAAA, PAMHUGFOSS and a few denials) but dont waste so much time on that. Make sure you do complete but FOCUSED physical exam. Practise like a 100+ pt notes if you have a slow typing speed (as mine), that will improve your speed. And trust me you will pass! My friend failed ICE too the first time around, and these were the things he worked on and passed. Best of luck.

thanx so much... at least ders someone like me as well.. seriously i don understand on wt basis do they fail us.. i accept partly its our fault bt as having such a good score in both steps as u have, that person obviously gna have good knowledge about cases.. but let it b now.. v need to move forward and improve our misakes... people dont good advice always.. they say ur chances are low, u l nt ge IM, U cant apply this year so late.. all just talk negative.. that makes u low confident n less sure about everything..
i need some positivity.. some hope tht i can apply this year.. if i dont get Iv, And apply nxt yr again does it gna go againt me.. plz suggest..

Agree! No one gives proper advice. Physical exams killed me the first time bcoz i hardly did physicals on my encounters (i didnt know and no one cared to tell me they were that important), i did nonrelevant lung amd heart (and that too improperly) on every case and didnt do focused exam. And so there wasnt much to write in the PE section on my note as well and that made me fail most likely.
Its not the end of the world, the friend i was referring to already has 1 IV in bag from a uni program, and he got the IV call even before his CS was passed (he has both step 1 n CK 250+). Try to get a date before october 31st, take your exam again. There was a guy natcruze who helped me get a date. You can contact him if you want to, he will get you a date if anyone drops his/hers. If you appear b4 oct 31st, your result will release on Dec 9 and you can still stand a chance to sneak in through this match. But if not, no big deal, make your CV stronger and try next year, time flies like anything.

Not passing is very hard to accept. You can def do it, just need more practice. they are making this exam more difficult, especially with typing the notes. You can def apply, but if you take the test in oct., i dont think you will get your results in nov. Try and take it in sep sometime and you will be able to apply and put your cs score as pending.

Default Don't worry!

I'm sorry for your 1st attempt, but just to let you know that I heard about many many doctors with similar situation finally matched in very good places, unexpectedly, be brave and practice.
The most important thing is you have to know what was your mistakes.
good luck

After several days of thinking about my errors I finally came up with a list that, for now, seems to be all i can remember i screwed up on: 1. Ran out of time to write the tests i'd order for 1 patient 2. Put CT and Xray of head when i meant spine 3. accidentally wrote an incorrect abbreviation for a differential (cant specify due to USMLE rules) 4. forgot to do a few key physical exam maneuvers i.e. heaves, thrills, pmi, when required 5. didnt ask anyone about quality of life being affected/in what way its affected them i.e. didnt ask if affects sleep or work, etc, never said im sorry about their chief complaint, i would just kinda throw in random apologies and sorries when it fit throughout the case or say things like we'll definitely try to help you now, thats the goal, we'll definitely try to get this fixed for u asap, i'll keep u in the loop, ill tell you the results as they come, etc etc etc 6. had 1 awkward moment with a patient that was unexpected during a left lateral decubitus pt said well this is awkward but i apologized right away for it 7. Didn't document things like scars or tattoes but mentioned it to the patient 8. was running out of space multiple times on the HPI so if say a person didnt smoke, drink, etc... i deleted those things from HPI so i can fit something more pertinent, so basically seems like i asked an entire social history but will not get credit for doing so because ran out of space to fit in other things and the things i did ask will not be known now even thought they were done 9. multiple differentials seemed off to me, some i could not think of more than 1 because felt so obvious, other times (possibly 2-4) was completely boggled by what to even put down as first one, and other times something i should have put on the list, i didn't and didnt realize it after, just kinda hoping the ones i kept still can fit the HPI, etc. 10. never put pertinent negatives into the differentials 11. several patients during the encounter (maybe 2) i forgot to ask a key question that would have lead to a certain better test being ordered aka the patient gave clues to something i, in my ever lasting nervousness and anxiety did not pick up on as hey buddy u may wanna ask about this or inquire about that. 12. I never summarized the HPI/physical findings, i just did the closure and told them what I think it can be/why i think its that/what tests id order/why id order them, not sure if doing a closure but not a summary will kill 13. Provided counseling for whoever i thought needed it for things like alcohol... but in case like alcohol i forgot to say the CAGE results... again something i did that won't be in note 14. didn't put in vital signs for every patient... probably had em all for only half and some of them i just put in w/e i thought was actually pertinent 15. Few times wrote "non-medical" terminology 16. scared **** out of patient by saying cancer.... but obviously wiggled around it saying its not for sure we have to run tests, etc etc 17. when i did my abdominal exam... instead of pulling from the bottom... i figured if the patient is already ungowned for the cardiac/resp exam, may as well help them lay down and just pull gown down a little more and do abdomen 18. didnt ask every female about their obgyn history, menopause etc, only if it was needed (or so i thought) 19. lot of my physical exams seemed kinda weakish, i did the typical heart/lungs... +s1/s2 no murmurs rubs gallops regular rate rhythm clear to ausc bilaterally (never wrote no wheezes rales or rhonchi tho whoops) 20. Forgot cn 11 on one patient and 8 on an other 21. Forgot to ask birth hx and development in peds case 22. Forgot to ask about medication compliance for a pt that obviously needed that question asked ...but that was a case i screwed up completely head to toe... 23. Phys exams were very basic usually i.e. rre s1s2 no mrg and clear to ausc bilaterally for heart/lungs 24. Feel like maybe half my dx were wrong...25. Forgot to ask 1 or 2 patients who looked in pain if i can help or make more comfy

Im definitely gonna remember other things... but as it stands... it seems like i failed ICE or CIS or both

well i had my exam on the 24th of june 2016 and i have night terrors about the result.. i messed up so many things, but the worst were I forgot to tie the gown back for 1 patient and forgot to pull out the foot rest in 2 patients.. how lethal is that?
and i was clueless on half of the diagnosis... most of the patients had negative symptoms i had no way to find out what is the cause of their problems, did hurried frantic examinations..
totally bombed the 1st case.
If i fail thats it not pursuing it further, but sadly 3000 grand gone down the drain.

Default Practice more ..

HI
I have read your note about your mistakes and I understand that you were anxious and afraid in the exam, I

haven't taken my test, but I can imagine how terrible it is. However my advice to you is to try

to be more organized and calm:
- stick to the mnemonics, and write them on your blue sheet before you enter.
- you need to practic what to write on the blue sheet during the history taking
- you need to practice how to read your notes from your sheet while typing ,in order not to

forget to type information you already have.
- Sumarize the history is important, it helps you to organize your thoughts, and prepare your sentenses in your mind for the Pt note.
- only samarize the (HPI) , and don' forget the eye contact
- you said: you run out of space in one case?! how did this happen ??
use expressions like:
SH: NO cig/etoh/drugs, instead of writing non-smoker
- use listed format instead of narrative format, and put many information in one line
- chech these youtube clips, her techniqe is very powerfull in writing notes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duL_...VDRgOar1-iGyUP
Hope you this would be helpfull
