Texas CS - April 28th - Houston

Well - anyone giving it then or around then? I have 16 days. I'm going to be maxing them out. If anyone is interested in getting together or skyping I'm open to the idea.
Thank you.
Now - what I'm doing here is taking about 20 min and maybe that many lines each of my 16 days to share what I've done/learnt/plan to do/feel. I would appreciate any guidance or critique, and if my ramblings help some one out, well - nothing like it right?
I have the 2nd edition of FA, from which I read already Sec 1 - the basics, now I will read Sec II- the encounter. I'm marking generously every line that seems important, and so far I've gathered this one is entirely different from Step 1 - for that is was actual facts and retention that mattered. This one, the CS - is more of what you physically bring. So there is physical practice that seems key.
Anyhow, so over the next few hours, I intend to finish reading all about The Encounter in FA. Then I will read the first 4 sections of UW (I have the 2008 ed), which covers History, Physical Documentaion and Tips. I will go over Neeraj if possible, then Skim the forum for experiences. At night, I intend to do my first run through of an actual case, see how it works. That's it for now. I want to cover all my bases arm myself with the info today, so tomorrow I can delve into actual cases, do an untimed one then another timed, write out my PN's, all that. I see how there are 31 numbered cases in UW and more than that in FA, will also refer to the ones missing. Tentatively, I'm thinking if I can start with giving 35 min to a case for my first two days, and do about 6, add 10 min to perfect the PN, 45 min x 6 = 4.5 hours. I will give as much time as needed to each case when I am editing. I have already bribed one of my b(r)others into playing SP initially. I intend to get my act together on him, then coerce the other brother over the next 3 days, then finally a dear friend to perfect the technique on. I wil reassess my plan on Day 3.
For now, that is it. I intent to report back tonight. I am prepared to be doing lots of talking aloud over the next two weeks, and smiling at an empty room and feeling up my pillow :}
At all hours though, I am subconsciously begging God to let me pass Step 1, because I know the result will come in soon.
Annnnnyway - this is Day 1.

Default Day 15 down, at 14

Alright so I've been reading. And after reading the physical exam part, I watched some videos on youtube, for the CVS examination, Pulm and Abdominal Exam. Very useful, thirty-ish minutes well spent. Highly recommend it. And since I tend to work best with schedules, I've divvied up all the cases in FA and UW, and they all fall into 10 systems per se - I've lucked out and my friend has changed her date to the day after mine, so that is lady luck focusing much on me as far as this goes. So anyway, today ie Day 14 of the countdown, I plan to do 5 OBGYN and 5 Ped cases - not practice timed tests but the minicases, going over the DD's, labs, all possible questions etc. Intend to use both FA and UW cases, aim to finish all FA and maximum possible from UW. The plan is to to do 5 cases each from 2 systems over the next 5 days, and then the remaining 9 days to 6 actual practice timed tests with SP's and marking. Atleast 6. Will update on progress - so far so good. Also, working on the smile and expressions!

Thumbs Up Awesome

Wishing you all the luck, please keep us updated on how you are going with this. I'll be doing my CS in August and so it would be very useful for me to see how you go.

By the way, can you please guide me on those youtube videos that you mentioned

Farida - search 'neurology examination' on youtube, and likewise for each system. Just be careful not to waste too much time, that is WAY too possible.

I felt that watching a video such as this helps you get make into practical mode - I know its been EIGHT whole months since I wore a lab coat or touched a patient and besides missing it, I also realize how imp it is to practice it. Hats off to older graduates!

So quick update - have read and discuss all the mini cases fo neuro, cvs, obs/gyn and peds from FA. I find working systemically means we get to talk the system out, per se - practice aaaall possible relevant D/D, maybe practice the physical for the relevant system. Have to do Renal and Pulm today, thats Hematuria and SOB, their like. Also have on my to do watching Neuro video and hopefully finding a willing body to practice it on. My SP and I couldn't - one of us would crack up and then the giggles wouldn't stop. How does one keep a straight face and the gut sucked in at the same time anyway?!

Am halfway thru Day 11, and it IS sinking in - even though a lot of this exam is dependant upon your manners and bedside manner - you still need to know your D/D's and think on your toes.

Worth mentioning - for most D/D's in Dizziness cases, everything we learnt in ENT comes in, which I missed sort of - with such little mention of the Ear in Step 1. Had a scare yesterday, people who appeared for Step 1 a day before me expecting their result made me realize - uh oh - I could have gotten it yesterday. Now I know FOR SURE, 6 days to the next wednesday and tada..

Oh well, back to renal and pulm cases for now.

PAM HUGS FOSS aside, I came up with one that is a little more PN-oriented, before I walk out of a room I better have the following:
...ad; here's how I remember it: Can He Really Provide Perfect Sex Forever??
That's gotta be memorable. If it helps someone out, great. If not, I know it might atleast earn a smile.
