Hammer and Otoscope Appropriate drape when examining the abdomen?

While SP is sitting, do we have to open the lower knot of his gown if we want to examine him in a lying position??
Otherwise with the gown tied, is it impossible to examine his abdomen?

When the patient is supine, you put the drape (white cloth/towel) on the patient's lower abdomen and legs.

Then when you want to examine the abdomen, you ask the patient to pull his gown up to expose the abdomen while you make sure the drape is still covering his lower abdomen and upper thigh area.

No, we do not do any inguinal exam, femoral pulses, genital exams, etc... If we feels that it has to be done, we write it down as a "workup" and inform the patient ( SP ) that you may need that in the future...

Yes. You can do the inguinal lymph nodes and femoral pulses. But do not ever go beyond that, don't ever expose the genital area.
Inguinal nodes and femoral pulses are OK'ed by the official USMLE website, read what I quoted here
