Default Old grad Stuck at 25 wpm!

Hi Friends,

Failed CS first time in ICE. Retaking in Feb end. Practicing hard with typing for last 4 months. Switched to touch typing, but not progressing beyond 25 wpm while practising at http://www.typeonline.co.uk/typingspeed.php

Wanted to attain atleast 35-40 WPM to feel safe, but appears to be distant dream now with hardly 40 days remaining to the exam.

Any suggestions would be of great help,

Thanks.

Hey.
Did you memorized the keyboard? You should be able to type without looking for the letters, or at least most of the time, with your two hands...What do you think is slowing you down?
Thanks for the link, it's a nice tool.

maybe you can compensate your speed by using more abbreviations, so you will not have to type long words and it may help? You have to be sure the abbreviations you choose are ok for the test though. Check the booklet on the usmle.org to be sure...

Thanks. I am working on using lots of abbreviation, especially for physical exam.
But do you feel speed between 25-30 wpm is adequate to scrape thru decent enough patient note to pass?

Well, I hope we will have other answers as I still have to clear CS too...
Besides abbreviations, I read again the step 2 CS booklet from USMLE website, and they mention that we just have to write what is relevant for the case... It means there is no point putting everything if its not relevant to this particular patient...It's tricky and it makes me nervous to forget something, but there is no time to write everything, period.
I found this vid. quite beneficial too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg56hxkqmII
Good luck man!

Thanks for your reply & also for the video link. It's been 2 wks since my post and my speed is still just 26-27 wpm, that two while copying the text on screen and typing. While practicing actual notes i am unable to go beyond history in 10 min with my speed ! Hope we somehow clear. My best wishes to you for the exam !
