Default Here is what the USMLE board says about Philly

You guys freaked me the f%&* out about Philly for 2CS. I emailed the board to ask them about it and i got the following response:

"Thank you for contacting the National Board of Medical Examiners.

There are quality controls in place at all Step 2 Clinical Skills testing sites
to maintain appropriate testing conditions. The standardized patients (SPs) who
provide the patient portrayals are highly-trained individuals whose activities
are closely monitored and evaluated by staff. Please note that IMGs are scored
the same way as US and Canadian students and graduates and the patient notes
are rated by licensed, board-certified physicians.

Also please note, our Scoring department monitors examinee performance and
ratings across test centers. We have not identified any issues with the our
Philadelphia test center."

Please end this hate towards Philly, there is no such problem!

The NBME spews out the same nonsense over and over.

Try asking them what the quality control measures are?

Try asking how the SPs are highly trained?

How are they closely monitored?

You won't get any specifics because the whole thing is flawed.

I realize what I am saying has nothing to do with Philly but when I see their generic emails it reminds me of their disregard for students. All they do is copy and paste the same statements to everyone when ever they are questioned.

Although a couple vocal people have had "bad experiences" at Philly, people have had bad experiences at every test center. While I believe there could be minor differences in test centers, and that generic NBME email response is what ANY business would send out, the NBME is not stupid. They know and understand statistics. They will not allow a significantly different failure rate at one center compared to another. Plus, the actor-patient turnover is significant, thus experiences will change from year to year. Anyone saying "one center is awesome, another one is terrible" is SPLITTING and RATIONALIZING their failure at that test center. We would need THOUSANDS of people to respond and give their opinions of test centers to get an honest and clear and statistical analysis. So don't let a few loud people scare you.
