Fire Thread Common MYTHS about the CS DEBUNKED

Hi guys,
A bit about myself. I have been a member of this forum for several years. I have good scores in step 1 and ck. I can speak fluent English. To be honest, I am not an extroverted "people's person", but I consider myself a pretty emotionally well balanced guy. BUT, I was ABSOLUTELY terrified of the CS !!!!! My heart sincerely goes out to everyone who feels the same.

Having passed CS yesterday, I need to tell all my fellow IMGs one thing. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, PERIOD! Don't let anyone make you doubt yourself. Have confidence in your intelligence, put faith in your hard work and leave the rest to your god. You will pass. You will.

MYTH # 1
"XYZ is the best center for IMG's. 98 % IMG's pass there."

This is the worst and most idiotic one.
Really? Only 98%? Are you sure its not 110%?
I mean, come on guys. This is a standardized exam. Its the same at all the centers. XYZ is NOT the best. In fact, none of them are. THEY.. ARE.. ALL.. THE.. SAME..!!!!! Nobody knows the pass rate of the individual centers. Don't believe anyone if they say otherwise. They are ignorant.

MYTH # 2
"ABC is the worst center for IMG's. A lot of AMG's take the exam there."

Please refer to explanation to the previous myth. I shall talk no more.

MYTH # 3
You need to have USCE before taking the CS, or you'll fail.

You don't NEED to. But having some USCE does help, as you get to interact with real American patients. You get to face the natural emotions of real life patients. If you don't have USCE, please don't worry. Practice with a partner thoroughly. And then practice again.

These are the top 3 myths which actively spread like wildfire among the IMG community and shatter the confidence of good doctors. Please don't be part of this negative, illogical propaganda . And please DO NOT try to find out the exam cases beforehand. It is illegal, unethical, and unfair. We are all hard working, intelligent doctors here. Don't do anything that would jeopardize your future medical career and don't do anything that would be unfair to the rest of us. Be good. You shall pass.

If anyone has any other myths they would like to debunk, you are more than welcome. Your contribution will boost the confidence of many others.

PS: Please pardon my excessive use of emoticons.

well said. Think all IMGs know which testing center's you are talking about. I acted out the cases mostly by myself, then practiced few with my sister and cousin as I could not find any study partners. Any testing region is the same. Just make sure you read the first aid well, practice the cases at least once and be confident on the test day.
