Question Take CS now or after Step 1 or CK?

Hello, I'm a not US-IMG graduated February this year. I 'm almost finished with a clinical rotation here in the US and have completed the online part of the step 2 CS application and waiting on the offline part, after which I might be able to select a date for the test. As of yet the only available dates are in September this year.

Now, after reading online I have concluded to dedicate 7 months for Step 1 prep and exam, 1.5months for CS and 5 months for CK and to give my last exam no later than July 2017.

One option, is to complete the registration for CS and pick the earliest available date and watch out for cancellations hopefully in June. Then give Step 1 in Feb-2017 and CK in July 2017.

2nd is to start step 1 prep immediately and give the exam in Dec-2016, CS in Feb 2017 and CK in 2017.

3rd is to give CK in Oct-2016, CS in Dec-2016 and Step 1 in July 2017.

I'm inclining towards option 2, as I would have pre-planned confirmed dates for each test unlike with option 2, which otherwise I feel might be the best way to go about the USMLEs) with only concern being if I might not be as good as right now in clinical knowledge/skills after step 1. Although I'm confident to have perfected history taking, physical exam and note writing for CS in Feb, but might have difficulty with differentials and management plan.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me out with this.

Thank you.

I realize I am a few months late in posting this and I hope you have gone for Option 2 as its the perfect one.

That being said, I am in the same boat as you with the timeline with the exception that I gave my CS first as I had completed my electives and I felt that would be a good time to give the exam. It was indeed and now I'm preparing for the Step 1.

Good luck and Godspeed.
