USA Passed: My mistakes and tips for CS

Hey everyone, I passed my step 2 cs exam that I took in Atlanta in early June and just found out my score on August 17th.

I scored highest on spoken english (obviously)..ICE in the middle.. and lowest on CIS.. all of my sections were above average.

Some mistakes I made that I can still remember:

-Ran out of time on 3 cases

-I didn't get to close for 2 of the 3 patients that I ran out of time on

-Forgot to do a full lung exam or check sinuses for a case that required it

-Forgot to add things in my patient note that I did in the room such as deep tendon reflexes

-I had only 1 case where I came up with 3 differentials...most of them were either 1 or 2 differentials... you can have 1-2 differentials, but how you back them up is what counts I think

-I touched both sides of a tongue depressor by accident, but the lady call me out on it..i quickly apologized and replaced it with a fresh one

-For one of the cases i had no idea what the hell was going on with the patient and had no direction or anything (i think he actually forgot his role)

-I ran out of time on about 2-3 of the patient of them i ran out of time mid-sentence when writing the differential findings and had to submit it

-I didn't counsel a patient on smoking cessation, but I did counsel on treatment options

A few tips for exam day:

-Bring your own food. The food that they serve is carb heavy and can slow you down for the later cases. I brought several granola bars. I ate only the meat and salad portions of the meal provided.

-Be on time, my uber got lost and literally everyone was waiting on me to get started.

-You will see half the students already writing notes when you leave a room. Don't let it ruin your confidence. Just worry about yourself.

-If you are a foreign medical graduate where English is not your first language then please learn it well enough to have full conversations without a harsh accent. Make sure nobody ever has problems understanding anything you say and make sure you understand everything they are saying so they do not need to repeat themselves. Smile often. Have a good energetic personality. Be extremely nice. SMELL GOOD.
