Smile Merrily Step 2 CS Experience

Hey everyone

I have been reading posts on this forum for the longest time. I think that I should contribute to the CS thread here because I have definitely been helped by people's posts here.

Sources that I used:
First Aid for USMLE Step 2 CS

I practiced it with a couple of my friends for about a month, whenever I got time during rotations. I would definitely recommend that you guys mimic the exam setting in every way that you can. Walk in, stand up/sit up, drape, etc. You will find that during the exam, the time FLIES. And little things like putting on gloves/washing hands, etc. takes more time than you expect!

When talking to the patient, maintain eye contact, BE NICE, show empathy, show that you CARE, when they are getting mad/angry - acknowledge it. The rapport that you build with your patients is EXTREMELY important in things going in your favor on your test day.

You might not be able to ask all the questions or know what the heck is wrong with your patient, but if you are nice and cordial and respectful, they MIGHT help you out. I had a few of my patients actually helping me to ask some questions during my encounter. At the end of the encounter, ALWAYS ask ' is there anything else that you'd like to tell me?' Because..you might just get lucky!

Always reiterate the patients' complaints, repeat them to the patients, conclude your findings, and ask if they have any questions!

Before you leave, say that it is NICE to meet them. And that you will be in touch or something along those lines.

Practice writing your notes on http://www.usmle.org/practice-materi...practice2.html.

Any questions? Just post here. There are plenty of us who can help you guys!!

Good luck!!!!

Yes. I thought FA was enough.

I was not familiar with any of the cases. But FA helped me to ask the right kind of questions. Practice! Practice! Practice!
