Question The threshold for asking CAGE questionnaire!

Hi all:

I heard we only need to ask CAGE when men has more than 15 drinks and women more than 12 drinks a week, it that correct? so if SP says he drinks 5~6 beers on the weekend, do we need to ask CAGE?

Thank you!

No set rules as previously discussed here
When to consider drinking signficant!

My personal approach to this, is you ask the CAGE in every patient drinking, there's no harm, you won't be losing points even if it was unnecessary.

Asking the CAGE questions can be unnecessary. For example, asking these questions to a patient drinking 1 glass of wine per day with no other evidence suggesting an alcohol problem could be perceived as insulting. Second, 4 extra questions in an exam highly time sensitive is not ideal.
