Smile Finally Passed After Failure

Hello everyone myself is Hardik. I am so happy because finally i passed my on second attempt. I took one year to pass this exam.
Let me tell my story. People can get idea for their CS exam.

1st time:
I came USA in April 2012.I started preparing for CS exam around 25th May 2012. I took my exam within one month. It was sufficient time to pass CS exam. But i did not do any live or online practice with study partner. That was my big mistake. I was in hurry to apply for 2012 match. I did not know about CIS portion at that time. My English was not good at that time. I gave my exam and i failed in all components. So moral of first attempt is lack of practice and lack of practice in English.
2nd time
I was realized my mistake after my first CS result. I did live and skype practice with my study partner. I did live course and also mock exam. I took CS exam after one month preparation. But I again failed my CS exam because I failed in SEP and in ICE. I did well in DATA gathering but I did not do well in Patient note. (typing). I was average in typing speed. But it is sufficient to pass Patient note.
I was realized why I was failed in SEP and ICE. First SEP component, I had accent and was not good listener. I had pronunciation problem and also had grammar problem.
Second ICE, for Patient Note I did not know what were important point to make diagnosis (HPI, positive and negative associated symptoms, positive Pamhugsfosswa, significant physical examination, DD and related Diagnostic work up which support your DD).
3rd time this is time I realized my all mistakes.I also took live course and online videos.
I passed CS Exam this time with good to high score in every component even in SEP. That is my achievement. CS Exam is very wonderful and very beautiful exam of my life. It taught me a lot.
Before one year, I was not able to tough situation. But today CS taught me how to handle those situations.
I want to thank all forum members who helped, supported, encouraged and guided me for Step 1,2CK and 2 CS exams and supported me.
I want to thank to my family, God and my study partners.
Finally tips from my experiences
For ICE component :
First Aid is very good book. Try to remember all common questions like for chief complain (1.pain -OPDSFCLIQRAAA,2.discharge from any orifice of body like cough, vomiting, runny nose, ear discharge, diarrhea, vaginal discharge- OPDSFCAAA and ABCO (ABCO stands for amount, blood, color, consistency, content, odor respectively.) 3. Any other complain OPD SFC AA A.4. specific complain like forgetfulness, shaking of body try to remember all specific question from first aid or make mnemonic).
For CIS component:
1. be confident, Strong, friendly, appropriate smile. Always thinks that sp are real patient and he is here because he needs your help and you are only one who can help him. You should think that he/she is you mother, father, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather or friend.
2. Try to make habit about CIS portion (paraphrase, transitional phrase, layman language, draping, knocking, introduction, summary etc.)
3. Gentle during physical examination.

For SEP component:
1. Speak slowly, clearly and use short sentence.
2. Try to mug up sentences for common question
3. Make common introduction and closure and modify it according to case.
4. try to make common sentence for counseling.
5. Very imp: Use thank you when you feel appropriate, also you welcome after patient say thank you to you. Etc…….
I finally would say all of you thank you much, thank you my family, God and my friends.
If anybody need any advice, i will be always there to help anyone.
Best Luck to all of you……………..God bless you…………………….

Default Continue of my experience

For Patient note
1.HPI, PAMHUGSFOSS and pyusical examination should be make sense and support your differential diagnosis.
2.You should write differential diagnosis which are most likely related case and most likely first one and least likely last one.
3. you should write diagnosis work up plans which support your differential diagnosis.

Smile Thank you!!!

Dear hardik221186,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience in details!!!!
It is very helpful for me, especially your mnemonics (I took notes) and how to practice SEP component !!! I am IMG too and definitely know what are you talking about .... At the school my second language was Deutsche (Germany) ... so, my preparation to USMLE Step 1 was started from the beginning of English but I never give up, just work hard and I am sure, I will see the positive result!!!

God bless you and thanks again!!!
