Arrow Finished the new cs exam

Hello forum cs takers,
first i want to say thank to you the forum and the admins it was alot of help for me for both my step 1 and cs experience. so thanks!

I am releived to say I have finally taken the cs exam. It has been a long time for me in prep since Ihad to change the date so many times because of step 1 difficulties but its over at least the taking part of it.

My expereince: the exam was straight forward and the cases are not complicated I was thinking it would be very hard since it was the new format but most of material covered the exam itself. The center representavies are very nice and the sp were not too difficult some of them it looked like they are trying to make the case harder and some of them just normal like regular patients in clinicals.

Mymaterials used: since I reviewed cs for so long I had the chance to read both the new and old fa a few times and had alot of time on the pn. I used csevideo and I agree with the others it mathes the new format very well. I think this was my best source, I had to continul renew it but from my exam experence it was worth it. The best part is it shows you the exam room plus how to act when the sp is angry and stuff like that and some cases in the exam were just like that.
I recommend you practice the pn alot becase it can look hard once your in the exam with the new format but if you keep practicing you will get it right.
so thats it for now and when results come I will share them ask any questions you like.

Hey congrats , just a simple and silly question.
When u write patient note and u don't remember spelling of a particular disease or medication exactly. Is it a negative aspect or there computers have some auto correction thing. ;-)

HI,

I am taking my exam in 3 weeks and I will like to know some things that could help manage more time on the exam.
1. I have trouble stating my findings to support diagnosis like in cases of depression - do I list all those findings of SIGEM CAPS? Or like in BPH can I just write obstructive urinary symptoms instead of listing all the findings?
2. Is FA enough for the exam - the long and Mincases or should i add some other material? I have watched some CSE videos and they have helped a lot but is it also necessary to subscribe and look at their individual cases?

You input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

sorry for the late responses
@koolkiller I dont think there is spell check plse practice the pn as many times as you can and you will get used to the words and spellings.

@docmn yeah yu can see csevideo on line if you go to the website

@ cardio yeah fa mini and regular cases are fine and you try to be specific in your findings if I were you I would practice pn with csevideo alot becasue in the videos you will see the case in video then you have to do a pn so you will learn how to do findings for each case I did this over and over and over and when i did the exam it was second nature for me since i practice both the video and pn alot. I recommend csevideo becasue it is gonna give you the best view of how you have to do the exam with the sp and the pn thats why. please ask any questions

Just curious....if points for the data gathering section of ICE are obtained only from the PE then what happens in cases where there is no PE? like the telephone cases or parent presenting with no child. Do we automatically get all the points?...or none at all?

I am having the same problem. It seems that when you hit enter to start a new line it takes away a lot of characters.

In the history if I don't start the ROS, Allergies, Medication etc on a seperate line and just write it as a paragraph it works out fine.

I'm not sure what to do with this...if anyone who's given the exam could shed some light on this please???

Smile csevideo.com

started using the CSE videos a week ago.they are brilliant. you have to subscribe, either 1 week, 2wks or 4weeks. (think its 79.99, 99,99 and 139,99 dollars). CSEvideos also allow you to practice typing the new pt note format. so i usually watch a video, write while watching and then test myself with the available timer so i make sure im good on time. they also offer sample pt notes to every case video, audio section w proper phrases and language to use during your exam. cases are realistic with occasional difficult pt and difficult questions. in my opinion it's a good way to learn how to interact with the patient and what to expect on the CS exam. videos are filmed in rooms that resemble those at the CS testing center.

You also have videos covering relevant physical examination from head to toe. overall..using CSE w FA and then practice cases with a partner will give you super confidence and prepare you well for the CS exam

Sorry for the late response
@dreamer2011 donít know how they score the test but if you donít have pe then you will be doing a phone case and you donít put anything in pe section, I would guess they score based on the hx you gather and put in the note.
@drliban for the pn you use csevideo as a guide on how you will put the information you get from your sp into the note. The exam data is not gonna exact but you will know where to put the info if you keep reviewing the new pn's and the outline.
@drsureg in some cases there is history and no pe and some cases there are both if you practice it over and over you will figure out how to make a list for both. I practice the notes tons of times this makes it easier in the actual exam.

the CS FA 4th edition came out this spring and they mention the changes that occured in june. they list 5 diff. diagnoses and they dont give examples of pertinent pos or neg on either hx or PE for each DDx. but it has some new cases added, so it might be worth getting..

http://www.usmle.org/step-2-cs/#format

http://www.usmle.org/practice-materials/index.html

look under the usmle CS section, you will find recent information of the new format, sample patient notes and also to practice the actual PN program that is uses on the CS.. timer not included, but you have the progress bar so you know if your good with writing space or not..

The format will be the same as on website, but there will be enough space during test. As they provide more space.

Try this : HPI all together without enter + ROS.
Then PMH, PSH, All and Meds.
Then FH & OBGYN.
Then SxH & SH.

Go check out my video where I show what I got on each part. Go to my youtube channel linked in my signature below. I answered the pts questions to the best of my ability. I didn't plan those odd questions. I did practice how to answer, "do you think I'll get better soon?" etc. And the very typical questions in the FA.
