Question Step 2 CS Draping

Hey everyone,

I recently completed Step 2 CS and in my usual fashion, I am harping on things I missed. One particular (seemingly simple?) aspect of Step 2 CS baffles me and I am wondering if I really messed up big time.

During my studies I saw over and over again, DRAPE the patient! In particular, I've read that the drape will be on a stool and to offer it kindly to the patient. On every single encounter I walked in and the patient had the drape folded on his or her lap. Something in my mind automatically dismissed adjusting it further with the exception for abd exams, I recall pulling the drape up to provide modesty but I never unfolded the drape to cover their lower legs. Was this a crucial error?

I haven't given the exam yet but I also thought the drape was supposed to be on the stool. In that situation I would have unfolded the drape over their legs.

I don't know if it's a crucial error or not. The whole point of the drape is to make them feel comfortable but if they already have it on their lap it sort of defeats the whole purpose.

If the drape is already on the patient's lap and is covering the pelvic area and a descent portion of the patient thighs then you don't need to do anything about it.

The only time that you might want to adjust is when you lay the patient supine for abdominal exam.
