Default how to counsel?????

well every one knows that counselling is an essential part of the cs.
according to fa & kaplan one should counsel at the end of the encounter.

now i would like to have some info about, whether we can counsel as the problem arises?

eg: we ask, do you smoke?
sp: 4 ppd x 40 years.

so can we counsel about smoking at that exact point or should we wait till the end of encounter to counsel.

any insights would be helpful.

It is up to you, I prefer to counsel as the patient mentions the risky behavior, this way you are going to avoid the possibility you might forget to do it later.
This the way they did it in CES videos.

i'm also thinking to do the same

as a single pt can be involved in risky behaviors therefore i think it would be better to counsel each risky behavior then & there rather than risking to forget some of the crucial things to counsel.
