Thumbs Up Started CS prep!

Hi there everyone!

I've just started CS prep yesterday with FA 4th edition and i'm planning to subscribe to CSEvideo as well (After 1 read of FA). I will also be doing the Jaypee video atlas for usmle step 2cs and i was not able to buy kaplan cases anywhere here.

Overall my exam is on Jan 8 but i'll try to prepone it to december end so that i won't have to wait an extra month to get my results back (cs reporting times vary by a month), Provided i am ready to take the exam of course!

Any starters for CS can join me here because i think we can discuss problems and practice cases here on the forum and it will benefit everybody.

Good luck all!

UW for CS? I never even heard that UW printed books.........just the website!

Anyways i'm doing only FA for now! If i just figure out to remember which questions to ask in every case (as in the FA checklist) then i can do some practice but i'm badly stuck with there and i'm losing valuable time too.

Only an experienced general physician can ask all those things listed in FA checklists without missing any. Bad for me i'm a fresh grad.

Any suggestions on how to remember sequences anybody or do people just start discussing cases on skype, etc.. when they r done with minicases only?

In my opinion, CSE video gives you the exactly what you need(+/- a little bit). I was also retarded by the checklist of FA, try to develop a sequential approach in general, then you can just add up or remove the info in particular. That is what i'm doing. may b the folks have diff learning strategy!!! plz share if so...

For me the introduction part is good, but the problem comes in the HPI. I develop about 3-4 DDx for every CC (Hope thats enough). I am able to ask about 70% of the questions in FA checklist only because some questions there are remotely related to the direct CC.

What are you doing about ROS? When they say "Focussed Hx" does it mean that we don;t ask at all about unrelated systems (like abdomen, travel, for neuro case) or do we need to ask everything from the mnemonic? I am using "NICOT GUST WADESST" FOR ROS.

PMH with PAM HITS FOSS is good and there is nothing really to miss there.

I saw some csevideo encounters. That lady is very very fast and her questioning is almost instant. Are you able to do it the exact way and ask all those questions as they are?

Yes I liked the intro and closing in FA, Rest I prefer CSE vid.
In fact I'm not paying much attn to checklist from FA. I am planning acc to CSE,
After the HPI, I have the formula for ROS as "THE FRCS PUG WADES"- what I made. Let's say I'll just ask Do u have any problem with urination?(and not asking about the dysuria, freq, dribbling or so if it is not "focused" per se). you do not have to ask all q in ROS if it is covered in HPI. IF you spend @ 1.5-2 mins for ROS, you will not miss anything.

PAM HITS FOSS is excellent.

I agree that she is fast and organized. I can not do exactly like her but I am trying to follow her way of acting in general.

I have only 2 wks left for CS and I should get CK result tomorrow. Tons of stress...

as far as I know and the poll result, it takes @ 2wks - 4wks for CS prep if you are recently done with CK.
I am using FA 4th edition(n0 idea about 3rd ed)
CSE video is helpful, at least if u go once thru them, u ll get the idea.

There is nothing special to test ur knowledge in CS, its only the way u to act as a professional n write note. I think we should be a good actor to pass.
lets hope for the best guys.:sorry:
good luck to all

Guys, do you know why Dr.Reynolds is fast? She is READING questions from her clipboard, she is not even thinking, thats why on min 10, when the bell is ringing, she is in the mid of PE, or even to the end of PE!w e will have to think before ask if this question even relevant. Her empathy is poor and only responses you can hear from her is"ok", no encouraging words like "good", "wonderful" etc, i guess emotions if added will put her behind

I'm going to take my Cs exam in December 27th. Is there enough time to start as I didn't do anything except reading some long cases and watching some vid. I'll appreciate any help as only 12 days remaining.
