Advertisement NYCSPREP Step 2 CS Preparation Course & Externship Program

Its common knowledge by now that, starting January 2013, ECFMG has increased the minimum passing for CIS and ICE components of USMLE Step 2 CS Test. Read the USMLE Bulletin. CLICK HERE!

What has changed? The way the History Taking, Physical Examination and CIS is evaluated has changed.Patient Notes have become really HUUGE!. We at NYCSPREP have been gearing up for these changes since last July 2012 and from the success we had with recent test takers, we are confident that we can equip you to pass the step 2 CS after attending our NYCSPREP 3 Days Course.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

• We place a lot’s of emphasis on each component of the Step 2 CS – History Taking, PE, Closure, TIMING, CIS, SEP and Patient Notes. Yes, you will need a little time to practice what you have learnt.

• Our Mock Test- will allow you to test yourself against Professional SPs and receive a feed back of the entire encounter, with emphasis on CIS.

• We have fully equipped OSCE facilities for you to practice BEFORE or AFTER the session in NYC, so that you can perfect your 15 minutes of the patient encounter. If possible, plan to stay longer in NYC to practice with other students at our facility. No extra charges.

• After practicing each case, you can send us your patient notes for evaluation right up to the time you go for the test.

• You can hire SPs closer to your dates if required to assess your test preparedness and anxiety.

WHERE IS THE COURSE HELD?

We conduct our course at a Medical School in New York City with access to auditoriums, classrooms and state of the art OSCE Lab. The OSCE is an Objective Structured Clinical Exam facility, with about 8 examination rooms where our Mock Test as well as practice sessions are held.

OUR Standardized Patients – are professional with years of experience. ALL of them have been with us for over 4 years now.

We at NYCSPREP do invest our time, in your success. Please read these TESTIMONIALS from some of the 1500 students who have come to our course till now.

If you are interested in coming to our Step 2 CS Course, feel free to contact us by phone or email. Also you can enroll online at www.nycsprep.com.

HOSPITAL BASED HANDS ON CLINICAL EXTERNSHIPS

NYCSPREP has launched its exciting Hands on Clinical Program to bridge an ever increasing demand from International Medical Graduates who need some kind of hands on US clinical experience. Residency Programs are looking for such experience from their Applicants, and our program aims to help you absorb the culture of American medical practices.

Our Programs typically last for four weeks per rotation (specialty), and will be held in teaching Hospitals with their own Residency Training Programs in the tristate area, NY & New Jersey. We can place the qualified candidate in many specialties like IM, FM, OB/GYN, PEADs, ER, SURGERY, etc.

We will help you with all the processing required, e.g. with getting malpractice insurance, HIPPA, Basic Live Saving.

To apply complete the Application Form, and submit as much information as you have for now. We will then
advise you on how to proceed further.

Default NYCSPREP Experience

Hi everyone...I took my mock test at NYCSPREP and frankly I think it was an eye-opening exposure for me. I had lots of apprehension regarding interaction with the American patients despite my fluency in English and my previous interaction with international patients in my country's leading hospital. Yet, when I took the exam at NYCSPREP I came to know where I lagged, my loopholes and I improved on it. Though they give only eight patients to interact with but believe me, when you have interacted with them, then you know innately that you can interact with 6 more. And yeah our group was given feedback on our performances as well, needless to say mine was dismal. But I PASSED on my FIRST attempt. However, they cannot make you sit and study. The slogging part has to come from your part. So...to get the feel of the exam its not a bad investment. When you go for the actual exam you know what to expect, that I can say for sure.

Good luck and God bless!! Suche

Dear Dr. Somas & Dr. K,I just got my CS passing score! I can not thank you enough!! as for the students debating for which CS prep course to take or if to take any at all - T A K E T H I S O N E!!! the time and individual attention that you will get here is incomparable to any course on the market. You will get incredible feedback on each and every patient note that you will submit, not to mention the much needed direction for clinical encounters! there is a very real mock exam at the end which will gage how prepared you are. even AFTER the course is over, Dr. Somas & Dr. K keep reviewing your notes, keep supervising and directing your clinical skills UNTIL THE DAY OF YOUR EXAM! the course was very organized, great feedback, I CAN NOT STRESS THE AMAZING FEEDBACK ENOUGH!!!! most importantly they will work with you until they both truly believe you are ready. if any one wants to pm me for questions about how i feel about this course - please feel free!!!

Hello Dr. Somas,

I passed cs I took it in Houston. It was very good experience and the center was much laid back. Thank you for teaching us to think like a doctor. I feel better prepared for clinical rotations and feel more confident in dealing with patients now. Also, please thank Dr. K on my behalf as she was very helpful as well. I recommended your course to all my friends who are still waiting to take it.

Thanks, Rhevanth

Hello Dr.somas I got my CS result today and I passed it.. Thank you so much for your guidance.

Dr. S and Dr. K! Thank you so much for all your help, guidance and advice in preparing me for Step 2 CS in a short amount of time. The course was very well-structured and the most amazing part was that we could come back to the center to practice and could email our patient notes for feedback, even after the course ended. It really helped me.

Default Let us address your concern.

DrBTK99,

We are sorry that you had failed your test, but we are not aware of your situation on record or your status as a student of ours. In this thread you wrote that you had failed in ICE and SEP, and in an earlier thread you had written "i failed my exam in ICE and CIS."

We have been fortunate and diligent enough to have a 95% pass rate amongst our students over the past 7 years, but failing the CS does happen to even the best of students.

Our students know very well that they can reach back to us again and that we will work with them till they pass at no additional charges.

So, please feel free to provide us your contact information here in this forum, or you can contact us/ come visit us at our center.

Thank You.

Why I can't find any thread reviewing students' experience with NYCSPREP? I am interested in taking prep course for USMLE-CS but feels a little fishy not finding any review on this forum about NYCSPREP.

Default this was posted by our student in this forum.

Just came by this post in this forum and wanted to share it,

spinal (USMLE Forums Addict, not a newbie)

I took NYCS PREP in August 2015. It's a three-day course with the third day being a 6-case mock exam. The cost of the course is usually 1000$.

The first day of the course is given by Dr.Somas. He introduces you to the basics of the CS. He gives you advice on where to concentrate more and important points that you need to elaborate in History taking. He does one or two sample patient notes and shows you his way in writing the PN. He also does all the physical exams maneuvers from head to toe.

The Second day: is doing as many cases as you can. Every student does at least one case in front of everyone. The SP and Dr. Somas give you feedback and then everyone writes their PN. Dr.Somas then reviews as many PN as he can.

The third day is the mock. The SP gives you instant feedback after the case and then move on to the next case. After the cases you definitely come out with a good idea about your strengths and weaknesses. If you hang around in NY to the next week, you may be able to arrange with Dr.Somas to do another mock the next weekend.

Pros: 1) very strong PN teaching. You will improve a lot in that aspect after this course,
2) does all PE that you may need in the exam and will show you how to write in the PN. He wants you to memorize his PN way down cold.
3) gives u a lot of abbreviations to use in the PN that are used in US hospitals. Trust him, all of his abbreviations are legit even if you feel like he abbreviates everything.
4) very good feedback from the SPs.
5) relatively good price
6) many american native speakers attend the program and this gives IMGs could exposure to every day language used by americans
7) exam rooms similar to the real deal

Cons: 1) Should be five days maybe.
2) mock exam is a practice exam not an assessment exam.
3) sometimes the number of attendees exceeds the number of available slots for the mock and this causes some troubles.

Passed the CS at the end

Ended up taking this course with NYCS prep course and ended up failing the exam. I know four other classmates with me at the time also failed. Felt like the sp's and instructors were just rushing the students through the course without giving any time for review whatsoever. You all need to seriously reconsider your whole instructional process and stop treating each student like a number. Promised a lot over the phone but did not deliver. Got lured into paying a good amount of money for a small gain from their excessive marketing and false promises. No problem with marketing as long as you deliver.

Firstly, it always hurts us when any of our students fail. But students fail for a number of reasons and its differs from individual to individual. We have been hearing back from our students, and the results have been nothing short of fabulous, so to hear that you and 4 others have failed, comes as a shock to us.

Also that none of the others have called or posted on a forum, surprises us even more. Please do call us, and we will evaluate and see how to proceed from here.

Thanks

Default Excellent results so far in this cycle.

" I got my Step CS scores yesterday, and i passed! thank you so much for all your guidance and help. i learned a lot from you guys. When i took my exam, it was nerve wrecking but each time i went inside a room, i somehow knew exactly what to anticipate and what to do. The mock exams i had there really helped me in a way that nothing really shocked me and somehow made the actual exam look manageable. LOL I'm glad i went with NYCSPREP. Again thank you so much for the knowledge shared. May God bless you! -Van
