Unhappy Failed the CS

I am an old IMG and just received my cs result today and I failed, I am so devastated as I've never failed before, I failed the CIS area but passed in other areas, I intend to take it again, I had 240/229 in my step 1 and ck.
what are my chances of residency as i wanted to participate in match this year.

Scoring for ICE i think is mostly from the patient note since the sps don't grade us for the history part of data gathering anymore like before. Only part they contribute for ice is physical exam. Knowing that, maybe you have to practice more on making pns. Unless it was the pe that made you fail which is less likely

nice step 1 score. you will get matched , but i do not think next year. You need at least 4 month USCE and your step 3.

Good score on step 1!! I am also an IMG! I did many mistakes in my CS but I want to share few things that I did in each case and think that helped me pass!
Hope this helps!

-Be confidant (make sure not over confidant)
-SMILE, be very pleasant, make small talk while washing hands unless the pt is in severe pain.
-tell pt in severe pain that ur nurse will come and give him pain meds at the end
-be very attentive, maintain eye contact
-say sorry about their pain, loss or other discomfort. say "thats really good" when pt says he/she doesn't smoke, drink or drug. Say "glad to know" when pt says his family has no health problems
-READ door info carefully. whether pt has come to ED, routine clinic visit or phone! tell pt about disposition ( he needs to be monitored / admitted for further management / follow up)

Smile

Im sorry to hear that your dont passed, for what I have been reading, ICE is the part that fails most people, both AMG's and IMG's.... Looks like they really increased the difficulty on this part.

My advise would be to really master the Patient Notes like shima and others have stated.. Is really hard to fail in PE unless you completely dont know what you are doing (which would be rare).

CIS is easy.. Smile and show empathy... what I did is even if I didnt need to counsel patients (lets assume they didnt smoke, had sex, drink and basically didnt ENJOYED LIFE) I still said something like "Congratulations on having such and excellent lifestyle! please keep up the good work and I will be here for whatever questions you may have"

Stuff like this can get you a long way

Hi... I don't think it's true that the SPs don't score us for the ICE component. From what I've heard, they have some kind of checklist where they tick off whether we answered the relevant questions, and did the relative exam parts, or not. I heard this from my study partner, who was told of it by the Kaplan center when she went for coaching.
Just make sure that you're not mistaken before you take it lightly. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

The Physical exam part of the ICE is assessed by the patient, while the data gathering and patient note is assessed by a physician via the patient note.It is stated on the website as regards the new changes to the exam. Also, the CIS and SEP are assessed by the patient.

I love how some people just throw out comments like they know what they are talking about- telling people they will match this year and things like that. there is no rule you need 4 months of USCE (it depends on the program) and there is no way to know who will match...

if you get 240+/240+ you might be able to not have USCE.

You still dont understand my point... You cant just tell people "if you do xx, you will match this year." It depends on much more than jus step 1/CK scores and USCE... That stuff will get you interviews, but if you match depends on your interview performance/type of person you are/spoken English/etc. You are probably trying to say that their chances will be higher to match if someone does a certain thing, but I am just bothered by you telling people they will match for sure...

number one/two things used to rank some is
Scores, Step 1, Step 2 CK.

everyone does well on the interviews.

when you spend this much money on the process you get ready for the interview just like how you get ready for steps.

last thing, spoken english, written english, is tested by CS exam, PS and you LOR.

I say for sure to anyone with scores of 237+, 100000% will match
