Help Please help regarding my CS preparation

Hi,
I need some advise from those who have passed. I have practiced cases from First Aid and a few from UWorld once. I still take 9 to 10 min to complete my history and then I have to rush for physical exam and I spend 1 to 2 min on counselling. And I always complete pediatric case in 12 to 13 min. The part most compromised is PE and I can complete my Pt. notes in 9 min. So, I have a few questions:
1) What should I do to complete my history in 7 min?
2) I have 8 days till 17th May, is it possible to improve and take this exam, if I don't find any date in June?
3) Give me some tips to improve fast or to get a date in June, please.

Hi. Im preparing for CS too. In the new CS pattern the SPs no longer grades history taking, so I think you should stick to the relevant Qs for the patients complaints and possible etiology's. For ex: If pt has Hx Cough then you ask only relevant CVS and Resp questions. Don't bother about CNS, Abd, Musculoskeletal. The physician who sees your PN will realize why you asked what you did if you can justify it in your DD's.

When I started studying, I used the zillion Mnemonics that are out there which took me so much time to remember which Alphabet Ive asked and which I haven't. It was frustrating! So I changed my pattern of studying and used my clinical knowledge to ask Q's I thought were relevant. Turns out I cover the same thing as the mnemonics, but only faster and my thoughts are more organized to make my DDs. 8 days is alot to improve this! I haven't taken the exam yet, but that's just my two cents. Hope it helps!

Thanks, a couple of days ago I was told the same strategy to follow, and I hope to see an improvement really soon.
Good luck for your exam.

Completing history in 7 minutes is not tough. After LIQORAAA, just concentrate on what you think are the main diseases. I used the mnemonic THEN FR CS PUB SAWED n the PAMHFOSS. Even in that, I didn't ask everything.
All this usually didn't take more than 7 minutes and I came out 1-2 minutes early in all my cases except one.
In physical, do heart and lung in all. Rest you have to take a call depending on the symptoms.

Heart and lung exam in a abdo case is not at all necessary. You can do it but you won't get any points for doing it since it is not on SP's checklist.
However, if it is a suspected TIA then you will do a Neuro & a Cardio exam.

Just do "focussed" history and physical.

Was told by people who had passed the exam that we should do lung and heart in all and I just followed that and it worked for me. You can decide for yourself how focused your physical should be. N tbh, just wanted to fill the space in the PE box while writing notes n doing only abdomen exam in a patient with appendicitis or cholecystitis would not lead to that. But you should see what you are comfortable with and follow that
