How supportive are the SP's?

Hey,

Just wondering, if we forget something to ask, but we keep asking "Is there anything else or do you have any other concerns/symptoms/problems", will the SP let use know that? For instance, while practicing for it, we make it a habit not to tell any answer unless asked the specific question for it, with our study partner. Are the SP's like this too? Or they are cooperative and will let you know some details of HPI that we missed?

I mean real patients are actually more cooperative, and do usually tell us all the symptoms that might be bothering them. In fact, they write novels for us :D

I am asking because I am kinda missing some questions while doing FA. There are so many mnemonics that sometimes you just forget a few questions e.g in Abuse/dementia case.

I had two SP's who volunteered vital information when I asked if there is anything else they would like to add. That information actually gave me my first different dx. And these were my 'difficult pts' in the sense they were very curt throughout the whole encounter, couldn't steal a smile. So yes if you treat them with courtesy and build a rapport, they are more than likely to help.

I find SPs very nice unless they have to act irritable and angry. Even if they have to, they won't overreact and won't make you feel uncomfortable. Just smile and answer their questions as much as you can. Never stop smiling even when they shouted at you or stared at you. It will also help build your confidence. I didn't do very well during my exam but I tried my best to remain calm and handle the situation. There are couple of cases I didn't get along very well with SPs but don't carry that feeling and embarrassment to the next case otherwise you'll be screwed. I thanked every patients and greet to have a nice day ahead after every encounters even they seemed unhappy with me. Be polite and gentle all the time. That's all I have to say.
