Stop Opinions About CSE Video

I am starting this thread because the new CSE video thread does not accept comments and the older thread has been deleted.
I would like anyone who has done CSE Video to post their honest comments so that the people who are thinking of subscribing to CSE Video have a better idea about what they are getting into.

This is my experience with CSE Video:

1. I bought a 1 month subscription to CSE Video after reading on their homepage that "Join now or activate later". I wanted to activate later but my subscription was already active by default.
Following this I received a blank email with the subject title "receipt".

2. I could not access anything apart from the videos and when I complained here (their previous sticky thread-now removed) I (and everybody else) was told that they will fix the problem soon but despite multiple complaints and emails to their non-existent customer service nothing was done and my subscription ran out without being able to access what I paid for. Even their video streaming was intermittent with automatic stops etc. Weeks later I received another blank email from them!

3. Despite all these glitches I managed to watch few videos and what I found was that they are so much outdated. The test has changed so much for last 1 year so much so that these videos seemed like a sure way to fail the test. Interestingly, 2 years ago they said "next year we will have another 120 videos with a textbook" BUT it looks like they have been sleeping since then.

4. There so many mistakes in those CSE Videos like saying "we will order x-ray abd" in closure for a patient presenting with amenorrhea!

5. There are so many other mistakes me & others pointed out BUT sadly instead of fixing the problem they decided to delete their thread thinking that these problems will get "deleted" with the thread.

I did manage to take a PDF of the "deleted thread" which I will be attaching later (here & other websites) so that everyone can read what they are trying to hide.

You can read my other comments here

I am posting some comments about CSE Video from other threads:

And I agreed with them, since their method is:
- based on asking tons of closed questions, which is not graded anymore in this new format,
- their physical exam part is pretty poor (prefer UW and Dr Swartz videos)
- there's no empathy at all Dr Reynolds seems like a robot asking questions
- they're lazy enough to not adequate their contents to the new changes..

Was this an instructional video from CSEVideo and if so was it an example of a fail? It may sound like I'm being sarcastic, but I'm actually sincerely asking the question. It may be the worst examination I've ever seen... I couldn't help but wonder if she managed to hear bibasal ovarian creps during her respiratory ausculation. Nuts!

Ps. I am not a Kaplan troll, if you look up the YouTube video I think you'll find yourself shaking your head too.

The videos are old, outdated, some of the physical exams are wrong, she asks all the questions possible.

THE VIDEOS ARE NOT UPDATED AS THE NEW CHAGES OF CS

NO CHANGES.

This is what I recommend based on my preparation & real exam experience:

3. Watch Drexel DocCom videos to learn empathy (only costs $30 for 1 month and are very helpful) ----> helps with CIS
4. Practice with a live/skype SP (timed to 14 min+9 min)--->helps with TIME management (& of course with SEP,CIS, ICE)
5. Practice PN every day till writing them becomes your second nature----->helps with ICE.
6. Stay away from CSE Video.---> I managed to watch few videos (despite numerous glitches) before Kaplan course but after the course I realized that these videos are so bad that I postponed my test for 1 month just to forget them and relearn it correctly!
If you are doing the Kaplan course then there is more reason to do so.

If you can afford it, do a live prep course (just to have some real SP interactions-helpful for building confidence) but if you do as above and with a good Study Partner it is not absolutely necessary.
Remember, this test has changed and the old recipe of FA+CSE Videos doesn't work anymore.

As mentioned in my Original Post, I am attaching the PDF copies of the deleted thread so that everyone can decide for themselves after reading the deleted thread what CSE Video are trying to hide.

After reading the comments on here, most of which were encouraging, I went ahead and subscribed to the CSEvideo. I got the 2 week subscription cos my exam is next week. Overall, the videos are ok. More than anything, they have helped me develop a sequence/methodology on how to conduct myself in the exam in order to save time.
I have a few complaints but the most bothersome is why all the patient notes on specific symptoms and study guides won't open! This is tons of information I don't have access to and PAID for! I have been subscribed for a week now and they are still not accessible. I feel cheated.

The videos are somehow helpful for IMG to outline the encounter.
Some of the cases are clearly from First Aid. What about intellectual property rights?
Physical exam is fast and superficial, sometimes simply wrongly performed..................

Novobiocin i agree with you regarding cs evideo
but i think it's the only one can show how the real encounter looks like and how to deal with time.
i subscribe with them for month but i actually use it for only week or so because as you said counsel and patient notes are full of mistakes and also even sometimes patient first say he has hearing loss on rt ear but at the end patient say he can't hear on lf ear.. so that's true alot of mistakes but just focus on how to manage your time and how the encounter looks like. thanks

Default Totally agree!

I totally agree. As I mentioned in the thread about my Step 2 CS experience, I watched 2 or 3 videos and realized they had lots and lots of mistakes.
One thing that bothered me very much was that the blond lady kept saying thank you after every question she asked or every exam performed. Thanking the patient is good, of course, but you don't need to say it every 10 seconds!

Thumbs Down Where's the constructive feedback!

OK guys I see what you are saying.

But don't you think that sending them constructive feedback with the hope that they correct their mistakes so that future generations benefit!

Most of the posts here is just blatant negative stuff, I don't see that's professional or constructive.

PS_ I did not use CSE Video but I am willing to do so when time comes for my CS Exam.

As I wrote in a previous post, their videos were important in the very beginning for me.. I think their material, for an IMG like me, was important for the PHRASING.. This is a good thing about them, you'll probably get a sense about the structure and learn how could you ask about determined symptoms.. It is not a bad format for the 2008 version of the CS, but currently there are some major flaws in the PE part and the CIS part..
PE is detrimental to pass ICE, you need to be system focused and complete!!! Don't expect to get a high pass without knowing how to perform a full neuro or full HEENT.. Even for Cardio and Chest exam people make a lot of mistakes and lose credits (e.g, not listening the chest through a full ins and expiratory cycle, or not listening for at least 3 seconds in the cardio exam)..
Also, CIS is much more than "Im sorry to hear this..".. You should answer pt emotions with emotion, otherwise you'll sound robotic..
I don't know If I will pass, but If everything turns out to be ok, those advices about PE and CIS were particularly crucial for me..

Novobiocin sent feedback numerous times on the thread that was deleted, and they still didnt do anything.

They should change their stuff and adapt to new changes, what they say is true, their webpage sucks and crashes, the format is old and the CIS part is plain wrong (also ICE)

What Novo is doing is helping you guys so that you dont lose your money and go and fail the exam.

That is the whole idea of starting this thread--Post your honest opinion once you have subscribed to CSE Video and taken the test, so that everyone in future can benefit from our experience.
If you read all the posts about CSE Video & read the PDFs I posted, you will realize that people have been posting constructive criticism for years and nothing have changed.
Instead, what CSE Video does-they first try to hide the thread into advert section and then get it deleted.
So, instead of responding to constructive criticism positively by improving the service, they decide to run & hide. There are many other areas in addition to the outdated videos like non-existent customer service, video streaming issues, PN, study guide not being accessible etc etc which has been complained about by many people for months but nothing has been done.
All this makes me think that all they care about is getting your money and once they have it they are least bothered if you get what you paid for!

Another thing which is very very annoying is that she says "OK" after every answer and (Is that OK?) i.e. asks for permission before doing every single maneuver which is taken as low on confidence on the real test. You don't have to take permission before every single maneuver but only once before the PE but you must explain what you are going to do before each maneuver.
I had to postpone my test just to re-learn everything again the correct way and it took me a month just to get her voice out of my head

I completely agree with you on that. I think if you are stranded on an island with nothing but access to CSE Video to prepare and you don't have much real life clinical experience of seeing pts in a clinic then certainly CSE Videos do provide an insight into how you should proceed in the test in the limited amount of time.
But what we are discussing here is that one single benefit does not outweigh the numerous risks associated with watching these OUTDATED videos. The worse part being that they have completely failed to do anything about it for at least TWO years.
All this points to that all they care about getting your money instead of updating their videos every time there is a change AND correcting the gross mistakes. They even don't care if you can actually get what you paid for!
They don't respond to your emails about issues but wait till your subscription expires so there is nothing you can do.

http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/csevid...ts-have-727125

this is something I found.

More reasons, I truly believe you should not watch CSE videos.

one user said :

CSE video - I subscribed to this but regretted it later. I only looked at 2-3 videos and abandoned the rest because they really were quite bad. I thought the cases on CSE video were NOT professionally done. In fact, I thought they were poor. For example, in one of the videos of a simulated examination where the doctor examined the patient's shoulder, I think only 1 side was examined. As you know, you always need to examine both sides (unless the patient is in severe pain and refuses despite you asking for permission once or twice). In addition, the doctor in the videos was seemingly referring to some prompting notes on the opposite side of the room outside the view of the camera - just appalling I think. Just unrepresentative of the standard required for the exam. My advice - please do NOT use CSE video.

Help

The evidence is here; obviously CSE video is not like the worst thing on earth, but they do lack a lot for the price and for what they sell themselves for..

Now each individual must make up their mind and decide whether to use CSE videos or not.

My advice (I passed all 3 sub components with high performance) Do what Novobiocin said and practice practice practice

Good luck all!

I watched only 3 encounters from CSE videos didnt watch the rest, cause I didnt really like them, I felt the dr in encounters was asking way too much q's which is not possible in real encounters besides she looked really stressed in every encounter & even the way she said I'm very sorry to hear that I'll do everything I can to help you was like she is repeating a crammed sentence over & over without any emotions. But yeah I agree it gave me the idea before going for the real exam how to do a full encounter within time, the rest comes with your own practice. I am not in a suitable position to comment whether to use it or not cause I'm still waiting for my CS results, I hope I can make it. But honestly even if I had watched all the CSE videos I dont think it would have helped me much cause as I said the real thing that matters for this exam is our own practice & confidence, not watching someone else doing encounters.

i agree with Val7 that we all have to decide for ourselves at the end of the day. I watched 2 videos of CSE and would never suggest them to anyone if asked. So if it works for something, it's probably the best for him/her. Personally i don't think anyone needs more than FA n someone to practice with which at the same time is not easy to find a suitable study partner too, but that is my opinion n someone could totally find it useless. But if i am coming to this thread/forum, i am probably looking for some answers or opinions which doesn't give me any right to feel offended or to offend the others and cross my boundaries.

As for me, FA was more than enough. But everyone is different and everyone studies in a different way.

ok. I have heard here that cse vids are bad but please suggest alternate video courses which you guys think are bettter than cse. I plan to take step2 cs after step1. After hearing the stories about inceasing failure rates in cs I want to prepare for cs well in advace.so please sugest good courses.

Depends on what you want, if you have the money you can try kaplan live course, you can try getting uworld, first aid and practice with a partner..

IM really moving out of this thread, im getting scared.. it has been derailed so much.. Wish you all well on this CS forum

This is what I recommend based on my preparation & real exam experience:

1. FA (including MiniCases)----> History taking (helps with CIS & ICE)
2. Watch online videos for PE -----> shows the correct way of doing PE quickly (helps with ICE)
6. UWorld: Although I did not use UW for my prep (since I did Kaplan live course) but I have heard good thing about it e.g. they are the most up to date online CS course and they also have PNs practiceon their site.

If you can afford it, do a live prep course (just to have some real SP interactions-helpful for building confidence) but if you do as above and with a good Study Partner it is not absolutely necessary.
Remember, this test has changed and the old recipe of FA+outdated CSE Videos doesn't work anymore.

I did watch a few CSE videos. I haven't given my exam yet so I can't give you the best opinion. But I will say this.

CSE videos are NOT meant to be taken solely for CS preparation. Rather, if you are watching them, you can skim them quickly just for orientation, to have a basic idea. There are many errors. For instance, the doctor is a robot, without any empathy or display of emotion. Some of the P/E are done in a bad way. She maintains the same tone in her voice, and has hardly any sensible body language. Sometimes, she just goes overkill, and becomes so boring and irritating with questions. She hardly uses any transition/confidence-building statements, and jumps haphazardly without a proper schematic.

That being said, some cases are helpful in knowing the questions to ask. But FA covers them pretty well I guess.

i did use FA step 2 cs and cse videos

and novo you are amazingly right.

i couldnot clear CIS because i used cse videos as sole source of preparig for CIS..........

I felt like devastated........and now am trying to recover.....never it happened in life that i studied and i couldnot clear,,,,,,,,i studied and i practised alot and alot for CS as i know we IMGs have to travel a lot to get to US and its not easy to go to USA every day......but despite that hard effort i couldnot clear...just

BECAUSE I USED CSE VIDEOS AS MY ONLY SOURCE FOR CIS

THANKS ALLAH THAT I USED UWORLD PHYSICAL EXAM VIDEOS.

THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED WAS THAT I TYPED IN ALL CAPS FOR PN BECOZ I GOT THE IDEA FROM CSE VIDEOS AND I PASSED ICE......AND PATIENT NOTE......

I BLAME THIS FORUMS MASTER TO HIGHLIGHT CSE VIDEOS AND IT WAS ONLY THIS FORUM THAT I GOT INFO ABOUT CSE VIDEOS

IF NAY WANT WANTS PROOF I CAN TELL HIM ABOUT MY CSE USER NAME AND INFO........

I am sorry you failed. But we are all adults here and have our own judgement. We are doctors or on the way of becoming doctors. I am sure every single one of us has talked to patients before and has an idea of what it is like to be empathetic, so I am sure you realized CSE videos were not the best videos ever...

I appreciate your input and feel sorry that you did not pass CS and wish you good luck for future.
However, it is not fair or correct to blame the forum for putting the CSE Video advertisement on their website.
An advertisement is just what it means -an advertisement-where the forum gets paid to put the advertisement on their website. This does not mean that they endorse/recommend it but they do it to offset the costs of running the website.
It is up to us as an adult to decide based on the experience of other users and that's the reason why I started this thread to warn others based on my poor experience of CSE Video.

I am genuinely sorry you did not pass. However, like Novobiocin said blaming anyone or anything for your failure is not the way to go. Its an instant cop out. For one I would like to say you should not have to 'learn' empathy from any course. We are medical professionals, it should come to us like second nature. Being robotic will not even get you through your rotations, let alone the exam. I agree with you that CS does follow a specific pattern and most videos do follow that. Personally I did not do CSE videos, it was just expensive for me. I signed up with USMLEstep2csreview (they have sample videos on youtube. Most of their videos were straight up robotic. I only watched it to get an idea of the correct sequencing for the exam. I have friends who have passed CS solely by using FA and CSE videos. That worked for them. I did not but still passed.

I wish you the best for the next time you take the exam. But blaming a preparatory source is not a good way to start.

Wow, so much hate for CSE....

I do agree that the lady who is the dr in the videos does sound like a robot but i liked the videos to give me an idea about the structures of the encounters.....its good for what its worth, and if you think about it its not expensive at all compared to the other options out there....obviously if you are using this and only this as your source for CS, you are gonna be in trouble...

I dont think the videos are as bad as everyone in this thread is making them out to be....

just my 2 cents.

Default My Opinion

It does not matter what videos you get. Go for whatever you want EXCEPT CSEvideos. They are thieves with license. I heard tons of complaints before I purchase from them but I didn't listen to my friends and now I regret it. 70% of their physical exams are wrong, they just COMPLETELY copy/paste the FA (yes 100% copy/paste, they did not even change the names, jobs, scenarios) and upload some crap online with NO customer service. Their phone number is busy no matter when you call, they intentionally make it busy, you can try , go ahead and dial this number now, 845-632-0592. I really even doubt that lady in these videos is a physician, she can't pronounce most of the medical terms and most of physical exams are wrong and makes you fail your CS. Put stethoscope on completely wrong places (listen to renal artery just mm close to Illiac of crest), don't change gloves after touching the SPs soles and immediately touches the SPs face (this will fail you in real exam) and so on. Thank god I passed, but they are making a horrible job and I just wanted to let you know. There are some other companies with cheaper and most reliable videos that I don't wanna advertise for them.Good luck

hello everyone,Happy Mothers Day to the all the wanabedoctormoms
I posted this in a thread and put it here.

I did my cs exam two weeks ago so I have some experience now for this post. I have been using CSEVideo alongside the first aid for almost two months In short CSEVideos is an excellent source to pass the cs exam. I would tell anyone taking the cs exam to not go into the exam before watching all of the videos. NOw I can say my exam did match the videos and so did my cases. thats a fact not just my opinion

I have had every email responded to by csevideo within 5-10 minutes. the customer service is very good and the it department can fix any issue I have within minutes.

I got a three month subscription because I need to time to study. I hate sitting around doing boards the boredom kills me sometimes. The csevideo program has helped me to kill that boredom it brings the first aid cases alive and without it I would not understand the fa very much.

On the website I can see the new videos 2015/2016 and the classic videos from 2010-2014. the post I read that criticize the website and the materials are mainly from one or two people that have been on the forums for years it doesn't take years to do all the exam and most of the people are banned because they were fake accounts. I personally will not believe what they say because my experience is not equal to what they say.

I am a real student an img I am not an advertiser I am willing to stand up for something I believe works as passionately as they are willing to put down something they have a personal issue with.

Oh and the phone number that drsloan you are calling I never called that number its 1844mycsevideo did you check the website for contact info. either way good luck to everyone and happy mothers day.

I have heard only positive remarks about their videos from my colleagues. However, I personally felt that I needed a live course in order to make sure that I passed the exam because I wanted to receive feedback from an MD on my own performance during the various patient encounters experienced on the actual exam. At the end of the day, you have to choose what works for YOU best.
