Question Need help with coming up with DDx

My exam is in about one week and I'm still having trouble getting the DDx down the way FA has it, also having trouble with the workup. Will somebody fail if they don't have the DDx and workup from most likely to least likely? What if we list the DDx and workup from the "pool" of possibilities, is that enough to pass? Does anybody know a quick way to help get down some of these DDx? UW has a list of DDx underneath the cc with each case, will memorizing that help? Along with memorizing FAs, Thanks

FA is not up to date with the recent changes and it's DD are not the way to do it anymore (since it lists 5 DD and you only need 3 now).
Moreover, you must support your differentials with findings from the history & PE findings.
You have to trust in your knowledge instead of trying to memorize but whatever works for you. They are not testing your knowledge here but just want to know if you can apply your knowledge in a clinical setting.
So, practice by thinking about the DD with each CC and FA MiniCases are excellent for this purpose.

what I usually do is categorizing the causes of a particular symptom first.. eg malignancy/infectious/psych/structural etc..I also try to think location wise for eg in case of abd pain I start thinking it as causes in LLQ/LUQ/RUQ/RLQ or epigastric.. It definitely helps if u categorise first because that way u don't miss out on anything..Otherwise if I start thinking about any D/D randomly I go blank..and it takes me a few seconds to come with the causes..try this way and then match up with the D/D given in minicases and you'll realize that this way you are able to remember almost all the causes that are given in FA..hope this helps..all the best..btw my exam is next week too..
