I didn't get my results again! I had an exam on May the 16th in Philly. Should I be worried about that?

So I just found I failed CS....completely devastated. I failed ICE. I know there were a few cases that stumped me and I did forget to ask a couple of important questions to few patients but I really don't know where I could have gone wrong. I established rapport and got along with my patients (some even laughed at a couple jokes I made during the interview), I used gloves, I finished with enough time in all my cases. I've read posts online where people made much more mistakes than I did and passed. I'm bummed because I now if feel my chances of residency are gone, my step 1 score wasn't that great. I had to go through so much just to get to med school and now that I've come this far, its hurting as reality is sinking in that this time, money, and effort was all for nothing....

hang in there buddy..i know how you feel..this exam is very unpredictable ..nobody knows whether they'll pass or fail until the results are out..i know this will be hard but work hard..dont make failure in one exam stop you..it might take some extra time to get into residency but you will get it as long as you dont give up..take cs asap again and work more on your weak areas..and believe me every effort is worth it..give your 100% to the rest of the steps now..all the best..!!

ICE is based around your PE, and your PN. All the other things either go into CIS or SEP.

Could you tell us about your PEs and PNs? Maybe we can help you figure out why you failed....

Perhaps your PEs were lacking, or your notes were not sufficient, or your differentials were bad, or your workup was poor, etc......

My friend, never lose hope!! I was very fortunate to pass, but my ICE was very very close to failing, so I could have been in the same situation you are it's a matter of luck sometimes! Your chances of residency still exist if you manage to overcome this failure with an excellent CK score and some contacts to get you interviews. There are a lot of people failing this test, especially after the changes they implemented this year, so you're not alone! Also, a plenty of people manage to match even with low scores and attempts, again it is less likely, you get fewer interviews, but it's totally possible if you manage to get your ECFMG certificate!! What you need now is to take some days off, recompose yourself and be surrounded by people who love you and are with you no matter what happens, try to get a new plan to ace the CK and be more confident on the next time you take the CS. Doing a CS live course might be a good idea, so they can give you some feedback about your weaknesses

It was probably was all the above, I probably didn't come up with the right ddx, or order the right workup. I know there were 3 patients I struggled to figure out what was going on because there symptoms were vague which bothered me at the time because it made me think I wasn't asking the right questions. PE I focused on relevant systems, or so I think. I thought my PN were sufficient because I modeled them after First Aid. It's frustrating because I wish I was told what I did wrong. If I did know, I would work on it and not repeat the same mistakes.

Bro, be careful with mnemonics!! You're not graded by what you ask, so if you rely too much on them you'll run out of time.. However, if you use carefully the Khalil HY Step2CS mneumonics are useful if you still didn't get a systemic way of approach each symptom.. But be careful!!! And during the encounter remember to focus on the Physical Examination for the ICE part!!
