Me.

I have so many mistakes. Terrified!!! The sad part is that I don't think I would have performed differently even if I'd prepared for a month. It's just that kind of an exam!

Good luck to everyone! I have many mistakes too.

ICE errors:
- 2 lightheaded patients without a Neuro exam (one is missing correct diagnosis in differential)
- 1 case with terrible joint examination. Only did gait and ROM, followed by Neuro exam. No specific joint test, and no above and below joint exam. Also misdiagnosed the patient
- 1 patient who was diabetic, but I missed it completely. Main diagnosis was right though.
- 1 patient was correctly diagnosed, but missing most important PE manuever.
- In general, my patient notes are poor. I am an IMG, and we did not do any PNs before I began studying for this test.

I have some CIS errors too, but if I fail it will be in ICE. Best of luck to everyone!

Default okay .. lets talk bout mistakes

1. Forgot to do MMSE in Alzheimer PT
2. Forgot to use legrest x 2 times
3. Wrote "SIADH" instead of "Diabetes insipidus" in PN
4. Couldn't Read the name of drug pt was taking and wrote just " cough medication"
5. Didn't listen to the mitral valve in noncardiac cases in women, just did aortic, pulmonic and tricuspid.
6. didn't do HEENT exam in one "cough" case
7. Forgot to mention pelvic exam with depressed pt and also forgot to write it in the note
8. i don't remeber if i asked depressed pt about suicide
9. when i entered the room pt was laying down and took hx. while he was laying down on a table. ( i don't know if is wrong or correct)

probably there are other mistakes that i don't remember but overall i did:

knocking on a door, introducing, permissions before hx taking, transitions, washed hands, i think i did relevant PE in 80% of cases. did counseling as needed, answered my best on challenging qs and did closure as i could
never ran out of time.

So i hope we all pass.
many of my friends are waiting for the results on 7th,14th and maybe on 21th. So good luck to all of us. !

cheers

Count me in too...

Same condition here, some of my mistakes
1. Didn't do ant chest ex in 3 resp cases as all were female.... Want opinion on these from you guys
2. Didn't do complete neuro in dizziness case, as the diagnosis suggested orthostatic hypotension
3. Forgot to pull out leg stretcher in 2 cases
4. Forgot hand washing in 1 case
5. Didn't had diagnosis in 2 cases, though I wrote 3 dd.
6. Didn't do sensory exam in diabetic case

I am really worried about the PE part. Rest was ok I think.

I hope I pass, God willing.

Embarrassed My mistakes

Exam: June XX in the LA center

Mistakes I can remember ('cause I'm sure I got more ):

1. I forgot to use the leg rest in the first PE. I realized about it when I was writing my note and felt so guilty that I paid extra attention to that in the other PEs.
2. Run out of time in 1 case, so I missed the whole closing but I finished all the others.
3. I forgot to give counseling about smoking in the closing with 3 SPs.
4. I forgot to check lungs and did just full HEENT in a SP with dry cough. (I still cannot believe I did such mistake).
5. I forgot to put the table in 30º in my cardio cases (2).
6. I run out of time in 3 notes (so they were about 85-95% complete). In several notes I forgot to write some info or physical exam "findings" that I got in the encounter.
7. In about half of the cases I used only 2 of the 3 differentials. I think I missed the main diagnosis in 2 cases, but my differentials were pretty close.
8. I always completed the "History" part of the supporting statements, but honestly I had trouble filling the part of Physical findings, and in at least 4 cases I put "Normal physical examination", and I don't know if I'll get credit for that.

What I did:
Adequate greetings and introduction, going from open to closed ended questions, appropriate use of transitions, continuers and paraphrasing, good eye contact, showed empathy (at least I think so), reassurance of confidentiality when it was proper, established timeline of HPI, summarized the relevant facts of HPI, I can say I tackled every single challenging question ( I practiced a lot for those), I used globes, adequate draping technique (extra carefully with female SPs), I was careful with the potentially annoying maneuvers they mention in the video (ie. abd palpation), and closing including summary of physical, diagnosis, and plan.

Ok... I hope I'll get my result on August 14th, because I don't think I can wait one more week...

I have gone through many experiences of CS with many mistakes and still passed :-)

It seems that people, esp imgs can't be "perfect" on this exam. Esp when y are limited in time

Hope everybody gets result on 14th and result will be the one that we all expect and want.

Embarrassed

The mistakes I can recall:

1. Bombed the first case. I was a wreck inside! Pretty sure I got the diagnosis correct, but I was taken aback by the challenging question. I said Í'm sorry I don't know, I'll find out and get you the most up-to-date information'. *face palm*

2. Forgot to pull out the leg rest in half the cases. Seriously! I noticed in the middle of the examinations and apologized profusely. The SP's didn't seem annoyed though. :/

3. After the first case I was so confused, I forgot to tell the next SP my name. I just said 'Good Morning, I'm the physician on duty today etc.' *face palm x2*

4. Ran out of time during one closure.

5. In a joint pain case, I forgot to check the gait. Did MSK and neuro exams though.

6. Forgot JVP in a breathlessness case.

7. Did certain PE's maneuvers but forgot to document them.

8. Started off with open ended questions usually, but sometimes drifted into close-ended ones. I remember asking 'You don't have any SOB, do you?' *face palm X 3*

9. Said something unintentionally funny, realized it a second later, and looked so horrified that the SP started laughing. I giggled too...wasted 30 sec. Take away a few points from CIS.

10. Realized a patient's BP was in the grade II HTN range while typing the PN. I didn't notice it before...I'm pretty sure we were expected to counsel the patient about it. FAIL.

11. Forgot to mention LFTs in a patient with RUQ pain. DAMN. Too much stress! Newbie mistake...

12. Rarely filled out all three differentials.

13. Forgot to elicit the spurling and lhermitte signs in a case of neck pain, and then stubbornly added them to the workup even though I knew it wouldn't get me any points.

14. Was still wearing gloves during the counselling of the first diagnosis

Things I did right (90% of the cases any way ): knocked, introduced, smiled, made eye contact, ran out of time during closure in one case only, tried to smile and be empathetic (may have joked around a little too much though. The SP's responded well, but they may have marked me off as unprofessionally funny. Crap!), pretty sure I nailed the diagnosis in 11 of the 12 cases, got better with each consecutive case and didn't repeat any of the major mistakes.

Oh, I want an opinion on something stupid I kept doing during the exam. I'd usually have time to spare at the end of the counselling. I would then ask the patient if it was okay with them that I completed the paperwork. Once during the said 'paperwork', I realized I'd forgotten to ask about something and I reopened a conversation with the SP.

Is that ok? Or once you're done with the closure, you're screwed? :P

I am really praying and hoping I don't fail this test. I made mistakes, some of which I can recall and some I don't remember. I know there was one case I had no clue what is was. Guys, put me in your prayers. Hopefully, I will say "I passed" when the score is finally released. Gdluck to everyone waiting.

PLEASE RELAX EVERYONE!

A lot of you guys are worried over nothing. You should only be concerned if you made major errors, or don't speak English as a first language. If you can't think of any major errors, then you're fine!!

I for instance am worried because I have two major errors. Mainly I didn't do any of the Neuro exam on two lightheaded patients, and I misdiagnosed two patients.

I have other errors (draping errors, incomplete workup, forgotten PE manuevers), but those should NOT make you worry. Those are normal errors, rather than huge ones.

If you do not have any HUGE errors, then you shouldn't be worried at all. RELAX!

I thought I was a pessimistic person until I read your posts(I have read the majority of them.. Not only this thread)
You are way to condescending on yourself.. And that as a doctor is a huge flaw.. you should really chill out because everything that comes out from you is either an apocalyptic comment or a 'sure' fail..

I didnt do an ophthalmoscopy on anyone either, had an awesome ICE.. I can see that you really have no idea on how to perform on this exam because man.. every mistake you remember for you is like the death sentence.

If you pass you are gonna be happy but are going to look like a whiner because I have never seen someone to complain so much about an exam! not even me and I had to wait for 3 months!

I wish you the very best and I do hope you pass so that life teaches you a lesson and stop being so pessimistic and paranoid.

I dont post this to offend you but to give you some perspective

Haha yeah you're right, it probably seems like I have Borderline PD. The irony is that in life Im super chill. Hopefully this will work out, and I'll pass. It just sucks because I haven't met anyone that has had as many ICE errors as I have had, which makes me feel like I'm the proverbial dead man walking.

I mean to comment on "It just sucks because I haven't met anyone that has had as many ICE errors as I have had"

See mine

6. Didn't do neuro in diabetic case (c/o urinary incontinence)
7. Did not mention to pt that I am palpating thyroid in fatigue case, though I did and from front. Again didnt check reflexes.
8. No neuro exam in MSK case.

#2, #5, and #8 are the ones to be worried about. #8 in particular will cost you alot of points on the PE. For example, you lose sensation, strength, reflexes, gait, etc. Keep one of those is a check box that will go unchecked.

You still have far less errors than me. I think you'll be fine. Congrats on passing!

We are our best critics when it comes to CS. I hope you are right about me and I hope I am right about you. Don't worry your mistakes doesn't look that bad as me and you will pass.

LOL! i never imagined that we all are experiencing the same anxiety!!! GOD! waiting is killing me. I pray to God daily that i pass. :sorry: :sorry: :sorry:

the two major mistakes i did:
1. ran out of time in two closures
2. forgot to write down investigations in the first case, i was so nervous coz i ran out of time in closure.

hopefully in the remaining cases i feel i did ok and many cases were smooth Alhamdolellah. i Realllllllly pray to God to pass :sorry: :sorry: :sorry:

Default lets hope for the best

hi every one
Till now i was very good at using suppression defence mechanism, but now with each passing day i am becoming nervous and paranoid. Literally, I am having nightmares. I know all of you people are feeling the same. I gave my exam on 11th July in philadelphia and unfortunately this is one of the last days of Exam period. So there is a pretty much chance that i will not receive my result on 14 august. This is making me more anxious. All those people who are getting their results on14 august, my best wishes and prayers are with you. Hope we all nail it. Best of luck

taking ur exam in the last days doesn't mean that u should not get it in the first wednesday.....there is nothing solid that simply says that since almost 90% get their results the first wednesday

Anyone has his scheduling permit disappeared yet? Is it an indicator that the result will be next Wednesday? or an indicator for PASS?!!

I gave my exam on 11th July and my schedule permit was disappeared the very next day.. So this is no longer a tool to predict the time of your result. So dont worry and relax.

I am currently doing rotations at a hospital. The program director of the residency program said he would happily invite me for an interview based on my performance.

The only problem is this terrible Step 2 CS exam. If I don't pass I wont even be eligible for the match this year! I can't believe how my entire future relies on a few 10 minute patient notes I had to write.

I made so many errors in the PE, forgetting important maneuvers, or at times entire systems. I'm scared. Looking back upon my performance, I don't believe I deserve to pass. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful that I somehow slipped through the cracks. Good luck everyone.

Monkey Jones, if it makes u feel better
I think u safely passed. Really this exam
is about communication and history taking mostly.
physical is only a minor component and if u messed
up in that it definately wont result in a failing score.
good luck with ur scores everyone
cant wait to be done and join in!

freaking out like anything..although i am 80 % sure that i will fail because i screwed it up so bad...i prepared for 2 weeks and took no coaching and did so many 'major' mistakes in my exam right from the first case..cant focus on CK at all for the past 3 days..just keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow..There is no point in even applying to usmle this year or next year as well ( already have a poor step 1 score)
good luck to everyone..all we can do now is pray that we get our results tomorrow and PASS...!!:sorry:

Smile Best wishes

Ok fellows in USMLE painful journey,
Tomorrow will be an important day for some of us (those who will get the CS result tomorrow). There is no way to accurately predict when it will be released or what will be the result. I'm just writing to wish all of you the best, no matter the result, which is just one battle of the several we already have had in this war for improvement called USMLE. Of course I hope we all win this one, but it is good to be prepared for the worst, in that way success is much more tasteful, at least I think so. This thread worked as group therapy. It's always good to know you're not alone.

Well, that's it. I'm looking to hear from you tomorrow or soon.

Does anyone know what time the result comes? Do they send an email about it? I don't know how this works.

You know noone knows that. Why ask such questions? The only clue is to go back to different threads and see when their results were released

You will receive an email starting at around 9.30 am IST. Usually everyone gets who is going to get the score on that day gets the email within an hour of it.

For those who have cleared Step 1 & CK and verified credentials, you will see an announcement in the score reports tab saying you have competed the requirements for certification.

Good Luck everyone.

9:30 IST is midnight in New York. Does that mean I should be getting an email in 2 hours???

The good news is that most of you did perfectly fine, and are just anxious.
The bad news is that I completely messed up my exam.

This time tomorrow, most of you will be celebrating, and I will be rescheduling the exam in a pool of sorrow. Sigh.....

Good luck everyone.

I feel the same way. I just hope it doesn't have to be that way and we all are celebrating. Sometimes I think, it can't be that bad. Then, I think, who am I fooling? All the best.
