Warning! You can't do all the checklist in FA for CS

hi all
the checklist in the fa cases
are very comprehensive
and if u do all of that in 15 mins
it is considered a perfect encounter right?
but in real exam u wont ask all the fa
checklist and perform all the fa physical exams?
am i correct?
so basically, u need to touch on some questions
so a focused physical and make sure u finish in 13-14 mins
and never leave closure
is this correct???
because i find that the fa list history
is very long
please help and advise!

First of all the Physical exams on First aid. There is no way you will have time to do all the exams listed there, do a focused exam. Abdominal pain...check abdomen. if you start doing HEENT, RESP, NEURO, CARDIO well... you failed (miserably may I add).

First Aid pn (don't even try to write one like these, it will take you 20 minuets not 10)

As far as Hx questions go, you are not graded on the amount of questions you ask. PTs don't have a check list anymore. Ask relevant questions that will allow to formulate a working diagnosis + 2 differentials.

There is nothing like a perfect encounter.
All you can do is do your best in the time provided. That's why practicing cases is so important.

If you read this thread and follow the advise you will not have any problems in passing. It has everything to pass CS. In fact it is the Kaplan CS course @ home.

It says in that post that you don't have to ask all the questions in FA. Can anybody verify that please?

I'm not sure if whether you have to or dont have to ask all the first aid questions, but they mostly are relevant to the presenting symptoms, and some just to rule out other D/D.

Ask relevant questions, be polite, empathetic and smile when appropriate like entering and leaving the room especially.

Physical exam- no one has time to do all of it described in FA. I always started with head and neck quickly or mostly (if esp short on time, which i felt most of the cases)- start with the relevant system first! And if chest case, i did abdominal quickly if possible. You just have to be quick, practice and focus on relevant things first!

Patient note- Mine was very similar to FA. I would say I'm an average to fast typer so maybe thats why i managed. But I think the note is def really imp, as it is graded by a Dr.

And yeah closure is def even more important than completing physical exam i would say. Make sure to leave a minute or two for that so patients can ask questions.

I passed with high performance in all three parts.

Key is- Practice, practice, practice!! Good luck
