That's still a great resume. You have very competitive board scores. You will be fine IMO. If you had like 200s on your boards and no USCE, then I'd be worried. But with those board grades, you're fine

Thumbs Up My experience!

I PASSED! I got high performance in ICE and SEP, and borderline in CIS not surprised about it.
I took the test in LA the 4th of June.
I got so many mistakes, is there any thread where I can post them?

You feel like giving up when you are almost there? especially with such good scores on other steps.
You worked so hard to achieve those scores on other steps and you want to give up after one stumble?
CS is just one stupid test which has nothing to do with Medicine but a test of your acting ability. Maybe you are not a good actor but you are a good doctor for sure. So, don't give up and just practice some more and you will do fine next time.

No I think it's really time to give up on an impossible dream.I am a mom to 2 little toddlers and I have given everything to this and then I end up failing the cis portion while everyone else has passed ,makes me feel rather retarded!
Funny thing is I never thought I would fail cis,I thought I would fail the ice!
But studying for the usmle was great,I actually enjoyed reconnecting with medicine, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.Besides most PDs would have questioned my 5 yr gap away from medicne(was trying to raise a family),so maybe it's better that it all ends here and I don't keep deluding myself anymore.

I know it's hard time for you and it's natural to feel dejected after a result like this BUT the only person who is standing between you and your dreams is "YOU". All those thing you mentioned are just the normal human nature to convince ourselves one way or another. What matters is how badly you want it and how much/long you are willing to fight to get it. After that it's just a matter of time. It's not gonna be easy but it's not impossible AND what's not impossible is POSSIBLE.

By the way, have you read Desiderata ?

Anyone who passes step 1 and step 2 with good scores can't be retarded!! You had a bad day, it happens to a lot of us. I know how you are feeling right now because I've felt that during med school itself, seen ppl pass in front of me who were definitely not as smart as me!!! Crazy things happen, such is life. Everyone can't pass the first go, doesn't mean you are dumb, just means you had a bad day.
Many ppl who fail don't post their results on this forum but please don't think you are the only one!!

You're 2/3 of the way there, don't give up on your dream so easily. Hope you will continue.

Hey everyone!

I don't post on here often, but I thought I'd share my thoughts since this forum has been exceptionally helpful in calming me down when I needed it the most. For some context, I found out that I've passed my CS yesterday, and thankful for that. For further context, I got a star on english speaking skills, high performance-ish (no star) on CIS and barely out of borderline performance for ICE. I'll start with the mistakes I remember (I'm sure there are many many more!)
1) In practically all the cases, I not once had any physical findings that supported any of my diagnoses, except perhaps fever?
2) Didn't have time to close my first case.. time ran out as soon as I sat back down to start closing... didn't even say I had an emergency or anything.
3) Differentials were never solid, and I was guessing a lot of the time,
4) Stuttered and stumbled endlessly,
5) Completely blanked on one of the cases, while with the patient! Had to fall back on generic, un-related questions until I gathered myself again.

Overall, came out of the testing centre thinking I just messed up my chances in ever getting a residency spot!

And for those who have failed, do not give up. Easier said than done I know, but do not let this one test trip you up. As others have said, the whole thing is a joke anyway.. more acting than medicine. In fact, it's all acting with some hints of medicine. Many before you have failed and matched, and many after you will. The path to the U.S was always going to be tough, so what If it just got a bit tougher? Most important thing you do now is to gather yourself again, and re-plan. The reality of the situation is that things have changed a little for you now and a bit of road-mapping is needed. That's all it is. You're facing an uphill battle, but can still climb that mountain. First and foremost, you have to pass this test the second time around (or third for some of you). Look at where you went wrong, be completely honest with yourself, and work your ass off to correct those deficiencies. Secondly, understand that residency programs might worry about taking you on as a resident since they might think you're communication skills or ability to think on the spot are not up to par. While I completely disagree with that judgement call, that is the reality of the situation. The way to beat that? Write a killer personal statement, probably mentioning your situation. Do some rotations in the US, make some connections, and get LORs that point out that the CS was simply a one-off unfortunate accident and that you're definitely a capable doctor. If you have a CV/experiences that make your CS seem like a one-off, you're much better off. Giving them nothing on your CV or application that contradicts or negates your CS fail will be your downfall.

Take home message is that it's not over. Ofcourse it's not over. Tougher yes, but there is always a way. Many, many others have been in your position and are now residents/attendings. Keep fighting, keep working and stay positive! Hope this has helped!

I know how you feel. I prepared for the fail since the day I finished my exam and had the worst nightmares during the wait. I have a very bad score in CK and am old grad. But I decided to take CS anyway and decided that if I ever fail, I'd retake the test. I'm a mom of 3 year old boy and have a huge gap in my resume too. I just fill that gap as raising a family and some freelance jobs I've done. What you need now is time out. You just need some time to get over this.

I have seen many people with great score not getting matched but some with average or low score got it anyway. In my opinion, it just depends on individual's luck. We have come this far. Just a little more courage and you will be working as a resident before you know it. I know how difficult for a mom to take these tests. I know you are emotionally and physically drained because I've been there so many time in the past. I almost gave up on this couple times but then for the love of my son, I decided to keep going. Even if I don't match this year, I at least know I tried my best and never stopped. I might apply for research or even non medical jobs if unmatched but I will keep trying until I get in. I sincerely hope you will continue.

All the best.

If you need any help with the CS, just let me know. I will try to help you as much as I can. I have posted my exam experience too.

Default Step2 cs failure

Thankyou for all your kind words ,I have never been a part of a forum but this mustbe the nicest one....
I talked to a pediatrics professor whom I was working with in a clinic for undeserved children and she told me that I should give it another shot.
But I need to realistically reevaluate my situation so some input would be appreciated...so here goes
YOG2008
Step1-221
Step2-231
Cs fail:sorrynot sure I can get a date this late so I will probably be applying next cycle)
No visa requirement
I need people to give honest and harsh advice as PD will be evaluating me from same perspective.

It might affect the # of interviews you will get, but i think you will still be able to get interviews. Once your at the interview Failed CS or Stellar Scores don't mater as much as your interview skills.

I wish you best of luck and don't give up

I suggest one step at a time. First get CS out of the way and then worry about the Match.
Frankly, no one can give an honest opinion about the chances of Match for you since there are so many variables in the process. However, no visa requirement & the " right contacts" in addition to good Step scores are a big plus for you.
Learn to see the glass half full than half empty and you shall succeed.

Those are pretty good numbers. You are acting like you got 190s and 200s. You will be fine, just pass the CS as soon as possible.

It means you will have to wait longer to get your result.
It DOES NOT mean you have a higher chance of not passing.
It simply means they have not gotten around to completing your score report yet.
I know a lot of people in here will say "I have not gotten my result - does that mean I failed?"
Before this happens, let me answer it for all of you: no, it does not!
I saw this happen waiting for my results and it really did not mean anything.

timing of results makes no sense whatsoever- a friend took his CS a few days before me. I got it my result the first day of the reporting period, he got his on the last!
Also, a few ppl that took it the same day I did did not get the result on the same day. weird...
good luck and hope you get it soon!

Thats a good question, he dissapeared from here and from studentdoctor (he also flooded that forum), who knows what was his score. But in all honesty I really dont like people that freak others by complaining sooooo much.... I really dont like pessimists.

He was online a few hours ago, guess he does not want to comment anymore after flooding every thread with his mistakes...

@bandagi53 I really dont think that giving up should ever be an option here. U have started the journey and I believe that you can complete it. U have good steps 1 and 2ck scores. It's true that we should not sugar coat it. not passing the CS on two attempts can be depressing and it is a red flag on your residency application. I would suggest you focus on identifying why u did not pass for now. U can not afford not to pass it the 3rd time. People have done it before. U can do it. With your scores in the other steps, I am certain that you are not an average student. u know your stuff. Just relax, take a deep breathe. it's tough but it's a pill u must swallow. Concentrate on passing it the next time by all means (if it means enrolling for the kaplan course or getting a whole bunch of your friends that passed the exam to put you through, it is worth it), improve other aspects of your application. U probably will not be able to meet up with this season's application. get more USCE, explore the aspect of publications if u dont already have some, and get your step 3 exam done. Apply widely and get ready to have very good reasons for the PDs why your CS exams did not go well twice. And don't forget, Pray! Go for it!

I would say apply wisely, failing it once is very bad, failing twice and having average and lower average score is super bad. Chances would be close to Zero.
