Warning! Increased number of CS Failures!

hello

It was reported by USMLE that number of failures in CS will increase this year now that the new rules are implemented...

Based on your and your friends' experiences, do u guys think there has been actually an increase in number of cs failures?

The official announcement of increasing the performance levels needed to pass which was posted in December 2012 and here's the link
http://www.usmle.org/announcements/d...?ContentId=110

According to that announcement it's expected that there will be 18% less IMGs passing and 3% less AMGs passing.

However these numbers are speculations and extrapolations. The real numbers might differ significantly. This is because even though they increased the level of performance required to pass but in fact it might be the case the CS exam takers are getting smarter and smarter and preparing better so ultimately same percentage passes the exam!

The percentage of IMG first time CS takers passing the exam have been steadily increasing from 72% in 2008
http://www.usmle.org/performance-dat...2008_step-2-cs
to 80% in 2012
http://www.usmle.org/performance-dat...2012_step-2-cs

The percentage of AMG first time CS takers passing the exam has been stable around 98% throughout the years. It would perhaps makes more sense that the new changes might affect more AMGs than IMGs because the AMG percentage is higher.

The effects of the new changes in the CS exam remains to be seen as the 2013 statistics get released in 2014. Before that, nobody can actually tell whether there is a real reduction in the number of people passing the CS whether IMGs or AMGs.

Stop trying to scare people. Look at the results thread for today. Everyone is doing fine, don't listen to these guys! You can still pass. I passed despite messing up every interview and not knowing anything about what's going on!

I love how this is drtimmy and monkey jones talking, the two people that have been freaking out all over the forum ever since they took their exam. Everyone now knows they have taken CS and they think they failed. I think drtimmy posted his experience in like 10 threads and basically "bombed" every thread with it. btw, he passed!
Bottom line, we don't know if this will turn out to be true, we don't know what it takes to pass, but freaking out all over the place won't help anything...

Wait and see the statistics, 50% of IMG will fail this year. I guarantee you.
This exam is subjective, because of that it is the only way, they can limit IMGies coming to US system.
If you look at the statistics of 10.000 certificate every year are release by EFMG, you will see that the majority are people from India, China and Caribbean.
The new unspoken rule is to increase number of medical schools and increase number medical student in existing schools to limit doctors from abroad.

My advice to all of you, especially if you coming outside us. This exam has its specific and you have to obtain professional knowledge about how to pass it. This is not test of your medical knowledge or your medical skills.
