Hi there,

I just passed CS with only a star out of the borderline and I am a old grad too. I consider myself a very good physician actually, so I don't think it can really measure your capacity of data gathering. Anyway, I did CSE videos and everything there was very robotic. But when you do what they tell you to do (in the videos), you king of go into the right direction in terms of want they want you to ask or not. Understand? It's like a system, that you have to follow.
So, I would buy some videos, would practice with a life person SP, would practice online with some random person(and talk to him so you can exchange experience) and, if possible, do a Life Course.

Just don't stop because you failed, you will find your place as long you keep fighting...

best

i m not saying that CSE are thattt good. I hated actually, but they give you something. I believe that if you do as the physician of the video does you will at least pass.

I think if you want to do a course do Kaplan CS 5 day course. There is no point in spending money on anything else but the best in business.
If you don't want to spend that amount of money then you can follow my recommendations here.
I would stay away from CSE Videos since IMHO if anyone can pass after watching CSE Videos then they would have passed anyway. What they teach on those antiquated videos is exactly what you are NOT supposed to do on the real test. Those are old videos and the test has changed a lot since they were recorded. For example, now they want you to be empathetic and not robotic and telling the SP with c/o of amenorrhea (as said by Dr. Raynolds on CSE Videos) that you will do an x-ray will certainly fail you.
The only use for CSE Videos is for people who have never seen a clinic in US but since you have already gone through the test once you don't need that.

I took the CS in june and just found out I passed today. My lowest section was ICE, I barely made it.

The only way one can help or give you advice is if you can give a detailed explanation of where you went wrong, or what you had the most difficulty with.

For starters, you said you failed the ICE subcomponent. ICE is graded by the physical exam checklist, and Note you write (by a physician).

1. Physical exam- Try to remember what you could have done wrong. Gloves/handwash, Draping tehniques, Auscultating the front and back of the chest, Correct abdominal exam, Using the foot rest. Go back to the first aid, look at the cases you had and check if you missed anything.

2. Note, theres so many things one could do wrong here, personally I shyed away from abbreviations, unless I knew I was short on time. Try to remember what you could've done wrong on the note, again look at the first aid examples and see how they wrote things out.

If You did good in the CIS subcomponent, then you don't really need to practice as much you did last time, at least not the history taking part. Save time by focusing on your note writing and physical exam maneuvers, you can watch youtube videos for those. But just because its been a few months you should still practice history, just don't go crazy on it (if CIS was good).

I know this is a hard time for you because you were probably planning on applying. But don't be too hard on yourself, a lot of people didn't pass this year with the new scoring rules. You have an advantage while studying know, you know exactly how the testing center is set up, no surprises. Just hit it hard for 3-4 weeks and you'll do good.

*Personally I recommend reading Kaplan core cases along with the first aid, they break the test down and explain the goals of the test it a little better than the first aid. But the First Aid is always a must. If you search the book on amazon, they have sample pages you can see if you like its style.

Good luck

jenny Im sorry about your results. I hope you do well the next take. I took my exam recently and I used csevideo mostly for the whole the test I found that it was exactly what I needed to use. I followed each detail in the videos and watched them over and over and in the exam I felt like I had already done it. so it made the exam more predictable and easier for me. I did read the fa and I used my gran daddy as an sp. so the videos an sp and read the minicses in fa. I was confident when I was done.

I have us clinical experience I can tell you that that is not enough because you cant do in the exam what you do in the hospital the exam is more structured then what we do in clinicals and in the exam you have to be fast and focused the csevideo is good way to see how to do that. you can ask me any questions and i hope you pass the next one.

I failed in ice too. I'm an IMG, but speak English like a native
American. I have a star in SEP, more that average in CIS and fail in ICE. I have no idea what went wrong, but maybe it's was a patient notes... Anyways I think you just need to works on ICE more and give it a second shot. It's not easy but keep working on it...

That one star less than borderline can't be the reason for the fail. It might be one contributing factor but there might be others. How can I tell? I also have one star in low performance in ICE and I passed. Their scoring system must be a very very complicated one!

Go to Kaplan, they prepare you really well , I wont recommend the practice exam though , it adds nothing and you get what you need in the 5 days course, so its just extra 1000$
