Arrow My CS exam mistakes. Mid August 2013.

Recently wrote my exam. I don't know if it's normal, but I have absolutely no idea how I performed on the exam. I don't really have a "bad" feeling per say, but I don't necessarily feel that I nailed it like I did after i walked out of step 1. I know many more mistakes will come to my mind in addition to the ones I already have a recollection off. But... here are the few that I remember thus far.

1) Failed to offer a tissue to one of the SPs who put her hands over her eyes after I gave her my diagnosis. looking back at it she may have been pretending to cry, but at the moment i thought it was just a gesture of being in shock... for which i acknowledge by saying I know it can be very upsetting etc etc blah blah

2) Did a mini mental status exam in a case where a full neuro was warranted, but I failed to record my findings in the patient note. Such as alert and orientation times etc etc…

3) Didn't pull out the leg rest for one of the patients while I did the abdominal exam. For what it was worth, I did apologize for not pulling out the leg rest to the patient when I realized it as I was helping the patient sit up.

4) Forgot to council a patient regarding something that definitely needed counselling.

5) Stuttered a bit when answering two difficult questions in two differnt cases, mostly because I didn't have anything more to say other than what I had already said... and didnt wanted to sound redundant.

6) Failed to do one closure. Only thing missing from closure was the giving my diagnosis and what work ups I will order. I had already counselled regarding the matters which required counselling as they came up during the interview.

7) Only listened to four locations while doing a pulmonary exam even in the pulmonary case.

8) Totally forgot to write about increased or decreased fremitus in patient note even though I did assess it in physical exam.

9) The very first case (I guess the nerves got to me) I examined the eyes using an otoscope. Which I realized when I was reaching for the otoscope to look in the ears and finding out it's in my bloody hand.

10) Forgot to take off the gloves before shaking hands in one case.

11) Didn't as about nausea/vomiting/fever in one of the cases where I could have used all three for either pertinent positives/negatives. I still used the fever since it was provided in the vital signs list.

I believe many more will come to mind later on… but at the moment this all i could extract from my brain while going over the list of cases one by one after the exam.

So...... anybody who has made similar mistakes and still passed? should I be worried?

Don't worry. No one knows how to feel after the exam!
I had the same feeling and I know many other ppl have.
your mistakes are not that grave, I don't think you will have a problem passing.
Not sure about using the otoscope to look in the eyes though, that might be a more severe mistake...

I failed closure in my first case...
Failed to do fundoscopy in a case of obvious raised IP while I advised for LP
Failed to tie the drapes after exam properly in more than 6 patients(only notted the upper ropes)
-the gloves were too small for my big hands but I stupidly struggled to wear them even when they don't cover my hands ...(I later stopped using gloves after like first 5cases)
-I was pissed at my last sp and could not hide my frustration with him(I almost screamed at him)
-I missed 2 pertinent diagnosis
-missed CVS in a diabetic with HTN.after my closure,sp demanded I should do a CVS (I was so embarrassed)

I think I did very well at every other part of the exam but I obviously believed I will fail CS ...
Got my result last Wednesday with high performance in all 3 sections

Don't worry...just hope for the best
with God,nothing is impossible...PREMATCHED!!!
