Unhappy failed at CIS CS exam !

Guys I need advice or some kind of suggestions please.... I never thought I'd fail, especially at CIS part of CS exam...I am a 2013 FMG. I wanted to apply for Match 2014. I have 3 LORs, good personal statement, a good CV...and 2 steps... Should I apply this year without cs or should i wait next year? any opinion is welcomed. Thank you in advance!

I think, any failure during certification process will decrease your chances significantly to match. Programs are getting thousand of applications, many have rule that you have to pass all exams in the first attempt.

I will give a try this year, but I will apply to more than 100 programs and I will send my application to broad spectrum. This is my personal opinion and at the end it has to be your decision.

I would retake cs and pass and after beeing ecfmg certified then apply. Most programs require a ecfmg certification. Other option you might have is apply only for programs that dont require ecfmg certification which qre few.

Idea! It depends...

First of all, for an IMG is not good to apply without all the exams needed for certification, and it would be even harmful if one of those is just a 'fail' without successful second attempt in your transcript.

If you think you can overcome your CIS issues in 2 weeks, get a test date and definitely pass this time, the current testing period lasts until Sept 7th, so you can still get your result for Oct 9th, let's say middle of October. So you would still be on time to get some interviews (most programs fill their interview slots by the end of October). Now this would indeed be a risky bet.

If you feel you cannot overcome your CIS issues and get a date until Sept 7th, then your score would be reported in December, which is almost the end of the most active phase of the interview season. It would be crazy to apply then. If this is the case, just take it easy, take a live course for CS, do observeships, or Step 3, and apply next year.

I know but I think CIS requires more work, there is something wrong in the way of him doing things.

Dont worry about it now. I failed in the CIS portion of CS last year. I just recently passed my Step 2 CS again with CIS performance way above the borderline. CIS can be improved in days to weeks.

I guess failing in CIS means that the person has a "blindspot" in CS. He is making some mistakes he is not aware that he is doing. Once he discovers those, it will be easy to correct. The hard part is finding out where he is going wrong.

I was confident that I will pass this exam so I came back to my home country and starting preparing for my step 2 CK exam. In order to catch the match last year, I decided to prepare for CK.(Took my first CS exam in May Last year) After I got the CS result, I ws shocked and sad. Never failed a single exam in my life!!! I was thinking of stop pursuing my American dream and think about going to Australia or the Gulf states. After talking to few seniors working in States, I decided that Nothing is Impossible in America. If I work hard, I can score good in CK and cover my weaknesses. Even that did not happen, then I decided that I should at least get ECFMG certify and play the MATCH game and Leave everything to Al mighty God ! [Another factor is that my close friend was talking the exam in June 2013, so I decided I should prepare with him. Already missed the match, So WTH! Lets wait a year ! ]

I would say it all depends on how you think you can handle it, But I would personally apply for it next year to avoid all rush. I would be nice to have you share what decision have you taken with the rest of us!
