First Aid To what extent do you have to memorize the Mini Cases?

Hello everyone!

To what extent do you have to memorize the mini cases of the FA for CS Book? Because I'm finding it difficult to remember 3 different differentials for a single disease. Thanks in advance.

Hi water!

I would not call in memorizing per se. What I did: I went through the mini cases reading only the "presentation" (put a paper over the "differential" and "workup" part. I tried to come up with my own differentials and my on work-up. When I could not think of something or when I went wrong, I highlighted that case, read about diseases I did not know much about, and so on.
I did not go through the book and tried to memorize, I tried to test myself and learn from it... Hope you can understand what I am trying to say here!

Valerie

Glad I could help! I actually liked going through the mini cases. I usually did a few with my study partner when we did not feel like doing cases or throwing "difficult questions" at each other. Sometimes I just did a few by myself. I think these mini cases REALLY help a lot - they definitely helped me! It helps you think the way you will think during the exam! You will have a presentation, come up with the differential and workup.
In my opinion, the cases are for practicing the steps, what to say, the exam, etc. The mini cases are for practicing coming up with differentials and the workup!

Guys,
I don't think there will problems in the DDx or Hx taking .. the biggest problem is the patient note ..
Do you guys have any strategy to get the pass score on the ICE especially the PN ??

Thanks

I'm yet to have my score, but I did this: Two weeks before the exam I did UWorld and typed every example note to get the timing right. It also helped in getting the typical cases into my subconscious. FA minicases are great also for the moment the patient encounter begins and you knock the door.
Now after the exam, I worry more about the patient encounter than about my PN, provided my differentials were right.
The worst part is not knowing how you did for so many months.

Good luck on your score. Hope you pass!
