First Aid Latest FA Edition is Old!

Hello guys !

I want to buy the latest CS FA book and all i find is the 4th edition which was released about 2 years back

Should I wait for the 5th edition to be released or is it not worth it ?
Are there major differences between consecutive editions ?

I'd expect that they'll include the new changes in the CS exam in the next 5th edition so it would be significant changes but the problem is that the 5th edition publication date is not yet announced so it will take at least one year before it's out, so when are you doing the CS?

I found kaplan step 2 cs core cases 3rd edition to be very useful. It is written taking into account the new grading system and the new PN format.

I emailed the First Aid Team to find out about when we could expect the 5th edition to come out... they told me that it would be released in spring next year, but could not specify a publication date for now

It really is a little outdated... I took my exam in May of this year (you can read my post about the exam). I only used FA to prepare, but made sure I looked up current exam information on usmle.org. be sure to do that! The patient note has changed significantly, but other than that there were not really any changes.
Also, Kaplan Complex Cases came out in May of this year, right after I took the exam. It is up to date on the current exam format. Since it came out right after I took my exam, I cannot tell you anything about the book.
I think FA is a great tool to prepare for CS. After all, it is mainly about doing cases. Just make sure you write your notes in the correct format (you can write them online on the usmle.org homepage, that way you will be using the same form as you will be using on your test - I think it was the same one or at least similar, I am a little hazy on that now).
So, overall, I would definitely recommend FA, even if it is not up to date to the new exam format. Maybe supplement with complex cases?

Good luck!
