Star Passed CS- Yet to do step 1 and CK!

Hello all,

I just got my CS result today and I passed.
I am just preparing for the other steps and although a lot of people discouraged me from writing the CS first, I am happy it ended well.
I found this forum very useful so if anyone has questions please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.
I can't say how many weeks exactly I prepared because I am a mom to a toddler and I also work part-time. Took the exam in Atlanta, morning session.

A couple of things/mistakes about my exam:

1) I wore gloves. I decided to wear gloves when I was in the first patient's room and the gloves got torn! I got very destabilized. I also ran out of time with the first patient and they came to knock on the door.

2) I had absolutely NO idea what was wrong with a particular patient as in nothing came to my mind. There was also another patient I wasn't sure off.

3) I counselled all my patients (except that I didn't finish with one) and always asked if they had more questions

4)I didn't type in capital letters (although I am not very fast with typing)

5) I practiced with too many mnemonics which ended up not going well. I blanked out on some at the height of anxiety. My suggestion will be too memorize the very basic ones except of course you are very good at it.

6) I forgot my last name with one of the patients and I introduced myself with a false name- that's what anxiety can do. People say you should be confident but it is easier said than done, I will add that in addition to being confident, make up your mind to pass. I knew it was going to wreck me financially if I had to do the exam again so I made up my mind to pass.

7) I used only FA, although I had the Kaplan core cases but I didn't really find it useful.

8) I had GREAT SP who we were very frank with each other about our mistakes and areas for correction. I met her on this forum. I also practiced with my toddler (who always thought it was a joke) and her teddy bear (Mr.Smith)

9) I had high performance in CIS and SEP but my ICE was just a bit above borderline.

10) Of course, I felt I failed after the exam and got very depressed. I prayed a lot (apologies to people who are not spiritual!) until this morning when I got the email and I couldn't even pray anymore.

All the best to everyone and I am happy to answer questions. Remember to do whatever works for you, we have no idea what another person's journey is all about.....

Well, when I asked is there anything else, most of them said no but it helped me to nail the diagnosis in a particular patient I might not have gotten. I will suggest you don't ask associated symptoms because they are likely to say no. What I think you can do is to ask some key things individually. For example if its a PUD patient ask nausea, vomiting, association with meals etc individually then if you have time you can ask for any associated symptoms.
Good luck!
