no it does not. My friend received his score late last year and passed. Scores during the summer are always delayed

Hey Guys, By what time can we expect the results to come today..? Is there a time window for the results to come each day (wednesday) or is it normally in the morning time..?

Passed, took it in Atlanta

I always read the forums but never wrote anything, but I am so grateful for passing. I was extremely worried for the past 6 weeks because I felt like I made a lot of serious mistakes so I'll just share those so it can ease other worried people.

There were 2 neurology cases and I was running out of time for both so I completely forgot to check cranial nerves in both, and any cerebellar function tests. One of the patients was pretty hostile so it really got me flustered.
In one case I forgot to pull out the leg rest
I didn't check tactile fremitus or JVP in a heart/lung case
Forgot to ask about a sexual history
Forgot to do a straight leg raise in a back case
Didn't counsel about smoking or drinking in a couple of cases
My notes were definitely lacking key exam findings from the physical(I got nervous and jsut forgot to write it down)
Didn't order several important diagnostic tests/laboratory tests
Misdiagnosed one of the patients and for another patient I'm not sure if I used acceptable terminology such as pleuritic chest pain.

What I did do:
I always introduced myself, asked if the room and the drape were comfortable
Helped them move around if required
Asked if it was ok to undo the gown, and notified them before touching them
Used gloves in every case
I tried to be empathetic as possible
I always closed no matter what even if it was at the compromise of the PE
For the differentials, I wrote as much supporting evidence as possible( kaplan says thats where you get a lot of the points for the ICE component)
I did CAGE questionnaire where it was appropriate
Made small talk when possible

Good luck to everyone

I took my exam on May, 13th in Philly. I'm so glad I didn't believe those rumors about Philly.
People, don't listen anybody about Philly center! Just work hard and you'll pass. If I passed, everybody can do that!

GL to everybody!!!

I did not mention it, but my exam was in LA too. Supposably, LA is one of the "bad" centers to be tested in. Bull****!!! The patients were sooooo nice, they answers all my questions in short but informative sentences, never wasting my time! LA is a great center for the CS test!

Good luck!

Thanks yes, I'm an IMG from South America. I was scared about taking the test in LA because everybody says it's a bad center for IMGs but it was the only center with an available date in May. and let me tell you everything they say about LA is a big lie. The day of my test most of us were IMGs (maybe 80%). the SPs were really nice, the food was really good haha, and the proctors were really nice too. and after all the stress from the test you can go to the beach and relax haha Good Luck on your test. Study and practice and you'll do well no matter where you take it

I am sure that in one I case I realised about the drap when I was about to start examination and may be forgot it in one more case.
Used sanitizer for cleaning hands in all cases.
Because of nervousness, hesitated during saying a sentence . This happened twice only in two cases.
2 or 3 times the patient had to ask me to repeat the question or some word. Because of accent I guess.
And some other small mistakes.

Beside this I did well and completed all the patient notes. I attended the ximedus academy for 5 days too.

I don't know what will happen on 18 but I don't want to take all the pain and efforts of traveling and taking the exam again. Too much worried.

I hope we all pass.

I passed usmle step 2 CS exam. Finally ECFMG certified!!!

Atlanta, April 14.

Thankful to Allah.

Default failed step 2 cs

Hi guys,
I am an IMG. I took my step2CS last month, received my test scores today and I didn't clear it. While I am terribly disappointed with the results, I wish to retake the exam.

But before I commit to it, I would like to know the realistic chances of getting placed into a residency program.
1) Is there a good probability of getting placed in a program?
2) If so, what are the fields that I can apply for? Is IM a possibility?
3) How much more important are observerships and Letters of recommendation now that I have a failed attempt?

I would really appreciate some help so that I can start planning my next move.
Thank you in advance for the help!

@nikhiljadhav,

I was in your shoes oct 2013. I also failed at my first attempt.
I know how you feel now.

I received my result today and i Have high attempt pass in all 3 components.

You must keep moving, you have come this far.
You need to carefully evaluate your area of weakness and attack the exam again.

The chances of matching is now about 30% with the failed attempt. But if i have only 1% chance, I will never give up.

You never know until you apply.
Goodluck.

hi cs.ice,

congratulations on your result. thanks for your kind words, theyll help me et out of this sh*t. but i wanted to ask a few more questions,

1) i have scored high performance in CIS and SEP but a borderline on ICE. will applying for a re-check help me?

2) i am trying to apply for CS again but i am not able to do it. it shows me the following error message:

{Our records indicate that you are already registered for this Step or Step Component. You may not apply for a Step or Step Component if you are already registered for that Step or Step Component. If you fail or do not complete a Step or Step Component, you may submit another application for this exam, but certain attempt limits and time limits apply when retaking a Step or Step Component. For complete information, refer to Reexamination and Reapplication in the ECFMG Information Booklet and Number of Attempts Allowed to Complete All Steps and Time Limits and Retakes in the USMLE Bulletin of Information.}

what does this mean? when will i be able to re-apply?

@nikhiljadhav,

Score recheck is like flogging a dead horse, the chances of a different outcome is almost nil from past experiences. but if you want to give it a try , you can proceed.

Maybe the system is yet to be updated, give it sometime and try to apply again.

Donnot rush into your next attempt,
Since ICE is the problem, you need to focus on high yield DDx for all possible exam like presenting complaints, FA will help with that. Then know the high impact symptom and signs to rule out each of them.
Learn how to examine each system to bring out each DDx including special tests.
lastly and MOST IMPORTANTLY, learn how to write concise PN.
Practice, practice, practice.

Goodluck.

Failed CIS. FML. I had a stellar application with 240+ on steps, multiple pubs, 2 months of OSCE with excellent LORs. Worst of all is I can't take the test now and receive scores before the application date. So I will have to send my application with a failed CS and at least no pass on record. Other option would be to let go of another year (I graduated this May). The test destroyed my life and now I'm considering dropping all of the US adventure.

Im sorry to hear that but giving up that early in the game is disappointing. I know many programs have the 1st attempt rule but depending on what specialty you want to get into you can still match in 2014-15 if you play your cards right. Your application otherwise is really good and you are a fresh graduate which plays in your favor. Persistance is key.

I am very sorry brother.. they haven't declared my result yet.. i fear the same fate

Your application otherwise is really good and you are a fresh graduate which plays in your favor. Persistance is key.
Will anyone interview an IMG with only one CS failed attempt? The earliest date now is October, which means I will get the results at least in December. It seems like my hopes for this year are over. I did not prepare as I should for this exam as I had to do it in the middle of my elective and I was exhausted, but all of this for such a ridiculously silly exam. I do not understand what kind of expectations they have for communication skills. I empathized. I consulted. I did not summarize unfortunately cause I didn't know it was a requirement (it's not done in the FA book in the cases). I forgot to pull out the leg rest in a couple of cases after telling the patient to lean back. Most patients were nice and smiling back to me. I couldn't recall any other drama and still failed. The whole setup is entirely unrealistic and they expect physicians to ridiculously exaggerate in an artificial setup. And now I have to lose a year and years of hard work and lots of success for that nonsense.

I passed in my 2nd attempt. all high performance. I was also not fully prepared in my first attempt. I learnt the lesson and moved on.

You need to also critically look at ways in which you can improve. read the CS manual properly. know what CIS requires;

1. Empathy
2. Treat the patient with respect: draping, assist with sitting or standing etc
3. Show interest in the patient
4. Encourage them to tell their story: one or two open ended questions
5. Listen without interrupting
6. Facilitate any emotion displayed: That must be difficult etc
7. Summarize and use transitions
8. Assess how the illness has affected the patient
9. Share information about the working diagnosis and next steps in management.
10. Ask how they feel about the diagnosis
11. Discuss the next steps
12. Smile and shake hands as appropriate.

The list is by no means exhaustive. Practice will help you master them.
I gathered these from various experiences on this forum and from FA.

Formulate your own protocol for introduction and closure.

All the best.

Hello all,

Within how much time ECFMG certifies us after passing all the exam? and how much time does it require to get our certification once they post it? Do they post it via speed post?
For step 3 how much time does it take to get Scheduling permit after application ?
Any help in this regard will be really appreciated.
Thank you.

Took the test in Philly on Apr 11, and passed. Don't believe the rumors about Philly, it is a STANDARDIZED test so you are graded in the same manner no matter where you take it. A big thank you to my study partner rockstar88, she made studying for CS a pleasure.

But did you get the issue date of your ecfmg certificate and whether it is updated yet on your oasis or not?

I have a question guys. My credentials are pending verification but they were received by Ecfmg on 24th April. Last time I spoke to thm they said it takes 6-8 weeks after receiving them . It's been 8 weeks and I'm done with the steps. When do you think they will verify my credentials and certify me.

Call them again may be. I called them and they said that they have just now found the mail from my school and have just forwarded it to the department. I checked online it got verified in next two days. Ask them again.

Sorry I didn't answer earlier, I've been studying for the step 2 CK. Yep, I finished all the cases in 12-13 minutes. I'm not that fast at typing so i practiced over and over until i could finish all the cases in 12 minutes. That's the key with this test: Practice, practice and practice. Good Luck!!
