Default June 18th, 2014; Step 2 CS Exam Results Thread

I took my exam on April 14 and now waiting for the results.
I think I should admit that I am worried about my results, as
usual.

I took the exam on April 8th. I made a few minor mistakes but I m hoping they look at the whole performance instead of one patient encounter or one patient note. I m guessing the result is gonna come out on June 18. I m pretty nervous since I m studying for ck now and already time restrained in order to apply this fall. I can't afford to fail cs and I m hoping I don't. Best of luck guys we are in this together

One more month........ seriously?
I think I am developing anhedonia because of this CS results.

I hope we all pass the test.

Guys, do you think we would be able to apply for step 3 before July 18(which is the last date) if we get our CS result on June 18?

For applying for the current step 3 format. I think we cannot take the new step 3 before Nov 1st and its result will come in April 2015 which is mentioned on usmle website.

You are welcome but still I didn't get my answer that whether we would be able to apply for step 3 if we get our result on June 18 because the ecfmg certificate will take 2 weeks I guess.

After we pass CS, I guess that after like 3-5 days it will be updated on the website that we are ecfmg certified. I think we don't need to wait for the certificate to apply for step 3.
I'm not sure though!!!

Hi ,
I gave my cs on 6 may. After the exam i felt good. I had finished every case in time, asked everything relevant , showed empathy and helped the patient lie down .mentioned everythn in pe before starting it ,summarized my hpi, wrote good notes ,and always had atleast two dd, although most cases i had three.had messed up two challenging questions , ran out of time for pe on my first case, forgot to counsel in one case.rest was ok. But now i feel anxious, and feel like i will fail or smthing .this wait is a killer.dont know what to do.

Was this your first exam or you have taken the other tests?

Don't worry dear, we are all tensed and really scared but we should hope for the best. We have done our part and the only thing we can do is wait and pray.

We all will pass, inshallah.

Hey! Good to see you here. To answer your question missing it on one case should be fine but nobody knows how cs is scored.

I took exam in the end of march, this long waiting time makes me in depression, really worried about the results because i made wrong diagnosis in one emergency case [pt has classic symptoms related to the diagnosis] and 2 sps are not satisfied with the counseling.....
Is there any hope of passing????

I dont think so. You only counsel when its required eg. alc, smoking, domestic abuse etc

Default I'm Collapsing!!!!! Panic Mode

Hi Everyone, I have been a lurker for some time now, I recently took my CS exam in LA, and now Im feeling like I might have failed... Please comment if you had any similar mistakes and what was your outcome....

My mistakes:
I couldnt finish 1 encounter, so i didnt do counseling at all, the rest were fine
I forgot to do a CVA tenderness exam on 1 case on which was relevant
I forgot to wash my hands in 1 case but I told the patient I was sorry and immediately put on some gloves
I forgot to add a major diagnosis on 2 cases
I did mostly focused PE, forgot to do some important manuevers in 1 case
Forgot some details in the PN of all cases like recent infections for a case that was extremely important.
Had some trouble with grammar and spoken english in which I tought the patient didnt understand me as well as I wanted to and some stuttering.

What I did good:
I did my presentation with my name, position and aknowledged the patients main complain
I was empathic and helped the patients to change position
I summarized in every case
I did counselling for all but 1 case
I finished all my pt Notes
I asked if the pt understood everything and answered their questions accordingly
I smiled according to the situation and provided comfort for the patients that needed it
I explained 2 DDx and Workup in all but 1 case
Told the patients in pain that I would provide some pain relief medications as soon as we are finished with the encounter

PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME ADVICE IM DYING AND STILL HAVE TO DO STEP 2 CK!!!!!

I did my CS at end of Mar, I waited so long and keep remembering some mistakes I made, I'm, like everybody else, freaking out, I'm afraid I might fail ICE.

I had the hardest cases ever.

My mistakes that I remember:
- Messed up one case completely (telephone case), I didn't find out what SP has.
- Two cases are so-so (1st case: one of DDx is wrong, 2nd case: DDx are in wrong order), rest is fine.
- In alcoholic patient (but not related to the disease), I didn't ask about CAGE, I didn't have enough time, patient was taking too much, so I didn't counsel about it.
- In one case, I did neuro exam, but I forgot to mention it in PN.
- Missed some ROS questions, some notes, and few workups, although I mentioned important workups related to the ddx.

My positives, I guess:
- I summarized all cases, I asked about PMH, PSH, SH, OB/Gyn, Sexual History in ALL cases.
- I answered challenge questions perfectly.
- I did closure in ALL cases.
- I counseled about smoking and illicit drugs.
- My PNs were good, except some DDx in 2-3 cases.
- Most of SPs were happy and smiling at me.

Wait is killing me, I hope we all pass, if I fail, I'd give up

I know it sounds immature... could not get a good sleep every night since the test (May.12th). I wish every hard-working IMG could get a pass...
A question for someone who might know the answer: since I took the test at the late stage of testing period, do you think I can also receive my result on June..18th?

Default Insomnia is setting in and possibly followed by palpitations later on!

My DDs for 3-4 cases were not good.
Couldn't do closure for one case.
Couldn't answer one challenging question because of time.
Forget to lower the foot rest in one case and but then said sorry and did it when the patient told me.
I am sure that in one I case I realised about the drap when I was about to start examination and may be forgot it in one more case.
Used sanitizer for cleaning hands in all cases.
Because of nervousness, hesitated during saying a sentence . This happened twice only in two cases.
2 or 3 times the patient had to ask me to repeat the question or some word. Because of accent I guess.
And some other small mistakes.

Beside this I did well and completed all the patient notes. I attended the ximedus academy for 5 days too.

I don't know what will happen on 18 but I don't to take all the pain and efforts of traveling and taking the exam again. Too much worried.

I hope we all pass.

Think positive! Everybody have the same feeling, but look at the percentage of passing score.
I am sure that you studied hard and you will receive want you deserve!!

97%AMG and 87%IMG on 2012 (from ecfmg site). Check it out for next years, I did not find them.

First of all, I hope we all pass.
You are right about 2012 but the problem started after June 2013. People have been saying that as they increased the passing criteria so passing rate will drop significantly.
Now I don't know how much it has dropped and how much it will affect us.

Some people say that they did a lot of mistakes and they passed it. And some people say that they failed the test and they don't know what they did wrong so its hard to predict about the result of this test.
Lets wait for 5 more days, and we will come to know.

you are right! I didn't take into account the 2013 changings. Did you find the 2013 passing rate? Or maybe with the middle year changing, ecfmg did not release the passing rate for that year.
But the only thing that we can do at this point is only wait..

It will be available but next year. I don't know how much it will be useful to us at that time?

As "coolfire" said, for IMG test takers from Jun 2012 to Jun 2013, pass rate was 76%
Google for "usmle performance data".
I cannot send a link here.

New criteria to pass ICE & CIS of Step 2 CS has been applied on test takers on or after January 1, 2013.
SEP hasn't been changed.
Resource: ECFMG.

Although I guess I did enough to pass, but nobody knows how they calculate this stupid test, nobody can anticipate.
Good luck to all of us.

I'm waiting for the results two and a half months now, and I can says that I don't even have the strength to freak out. Although I probably should. I am completely burned out, and not even trying to imagine that FAIL part can make me feel anything else but ignorance for the June 18th. And again, I'm trying to force myself to think what will happen if I fail, to make myself worry, to act normally as all of you guys to think about how everything will be for nothing, all that hard work and sleepless nights, headaches, sleep deprivation. And again, I'm indifferent! I guess that's a bad sign.
My biggest worry is that I think that I didn't tell the suspected dx to majority of patients and that probably didn't explain the plan of care detailed enough. And didn't wash hands in 1 case, but I think that one was experimental I counseled them and was empathetic though. My English was good, I was summerizing, asking for their questions, my notes were generally good .
But who knows... Anything is possible... And, at this point of time, I guess I could wait for few more weeks....

We all have studied a lot and its a common factor among us. Then there are other hardships like some people have to get a visa with difficulties to travel to US and some people have to earn money to sponsor his/her usmle. So everyone here is tensed, worried and these two words like PASS/Fail mean a lot to us at this time. Because we are this close to fulfill our dreams.
Don't say that you are indifferent. You are worried and we all are worried. You have made a lot of efforts in making it till this point. When a human being makes efforts, he/she develops dreams also. And I don't thing we should easily let go off those dreams.

We are all hard working doctors. We have the stamina to tolerate and bear hardships in life. And I am sure we would able to face this JUNE 18 in our lives as well. So lets take a deep breath and face it.

It's recommended to do CV+pulse+lung exam+HEENT to all SPs, but no need to do for example neuro exam or abdominal exam if not needed.

Default My mistakes

I was nervous during the entire exam. I couldn't finish the closure for one case. Didn't finish to write all the physical exam on 1-2 PN. Only put 2 DD for most of my PN. But worries me the most is that I messed up a whole case because didn't read all the doorway information!!!! This waiting is killing me!

One private tutor told my friend: you will get trouble if you completely mess up 2 or 3 cases. Again, keep fingers crossed for all of us....

Default the waiting is driving me crazy

The clock is ticking, wish I know the result tomorrow. Seriously, guys, I cannot take this any more. The thought of failing is just driving me crazy. I feel pretty good after the exam, finished all the cases 2-3 min ahead. Now I cannot stop thinking what if i mess up with the diagnosis. Guess have to wait patiently for another 36 h. God bless us all.

We are all worried and we have to wait for the result but there are ways in which you can decrease you anxiety level. Like watching movies.
And that's what I am doing. It helps me not to think about the result.

Embarrassed How do we get the results?

Are they in our emails first as an announcement, then a link to log in OR go directly to NBME... where should we expect to look for first?

But for most of us, it will be available by tomorrow I guess.

I didn't know this usmle journey will take me to a point where one can say its all or none.

God bless us all.
