Default Passss

I passed!!!!

My Experience...

So I just came off from studying for step 2 ck which I think helped with differential diagnoses, but I felt that asking the right questions was still necessary to pass this exam. I can't tell you how many mistakes I made, but here are what I believed was wrong and brought my ICE/CIS score pretty low:

1.) NEVER SUMMARIZED (thought I'd fail just from that)
2.) I was trying to talk to a person on the side when she had trouble hearing me, then she kept trying to look at me and I kept telling her to look forward and she said... I need to look at you to hear... so that freaked me out
3.) 2 cases, the SPs didn't really seem to like me. Not sure if they were challenging me with questions, but they didn't seem to like my diagnoses... so I just decided to say it's a preliminary diagnosis and I want to do more tests to just make sure, and they seemed to accept that.
4.) Didn't do a neuro exam for a very likely neuro case
5.) Fiddled like an idiot with gloves in the first case (got a medium instead of large) and I apologized at the end about the gloves...
6.) Almost got no pertinent positives for one case
7.) Didn't close for at least 2 cases due to lack of time.
8.) Tried to counsel about smoking, SP told me he'd rather hear that at the end, then I forgot to counsel =/
9.) Didn't extend the thingy when SP lied down
10.) I think I forgot to ask for permission for PE for a couple of patients

Probably more mistakes, but I can't remember at the moment. I believe my good PNs kinda saved me as well. I'll tell you this, I took this at Philly, so don't think any test center is any worse or better. If you can't stand southern accents, don't take it in Atlanta or Houston cause I think that might be a problem with some IMGs with understanding. Anyways, THANK GOD THAT HE ANSWERED MY PRAYERS!! Just pray, be empathetic, and all will be good =)

Default God is good!

PASSED! Atlanta, May 21

Mistakes I made:
Didn't wash/sanitize my hands X 4 encounters
Didn't have time to write any workup x 1 encounter
Only put down 1 test (ran out of time) on syncope work up
Didn't ask CAGE questionnaire for someone that drank 1 pint of whiskey/day
Put only 1 DDX for a telephone case

These mistakes haunted my dreams for the past 2 months! I honestly thought I was going to fail.

Congratulations to everyone that passed. Get ready for MATCH!

Default passed despite all the following mistakes :D

PASSED!! ALHAMDULLAH!!

I didnt take some of the social hx aspects when I felt it wasnt necessary,
and didnt do a complete ROS, and only did a focused exam writing only the VS & specific organ in the PE part of the PN, and also forgot to write some of the details of hx in the PN like "the pain woke up the patient from sleep" etc

Case 1: patient hinted that he had some difficulty sleep after his main complaint.. I took some hx for that then didnt assess if he was DEPRESSED or not :/

Case 2: Didnt auscultate carotids in CV exam even though it was related to the presentation

Case 3: missed a major differential of the presentation

Case 4: patient seemed agitated but I failed to show enough concern, cause by the end of the case she seemed still agitated...and messed up on of the drugs names in the PN where it was one of the DDX

Case 5: asked the Qs of pediatric hx but missed 2 Qs and the hx was sort of all over the place, and I had the caretaker of the child tell me "What?? what do you mean??" twice!! :/

Case 6: Forgot to do HEARING EXAM, weber and Rinner in a relevant case but did the rest of the neuro and otoscopy

Case 7: Didnt do the special maneuvers for a presentation even though it was related to the top differential + missed a whole bunch of ROS Qs that may have been related to the complaint + the patient responded to me in a weird rude way when I asked one of the Qs...he seemed upset angry :/

Case 8: did well...hopefully

Case 9: did well

case 10: did well but didnt ask 1 or 2 Qs related to the main complaint

Case 11: Asked only some of the list of the Qs for that complaint...since 4 of the 12 Qs were normal

Case 12: did well

What I did do:

Managed to finish a couple of minutes earlier & counseled the patients when needed
Shaked their hands, washed my hands, pulled out the tray thingee when examining them and helped them sit up & always explained what I was doing
Smiled at the beginning of the encounter & introduced myself
Smiled at the end, shook their hands, always asked if they had any questions or concerns and that I would share the results with them once they are out

I got an email from ECFMG at 9:00 am CST or 10:00 am EST, don't sweat it, your score will come back eventually and I hope you pass!

Passed. Had to retake after failing ICE subcomponent last year.
Was part of an eight person study group here in Atlanta that prepped over 1-2 months. Three re-takers and five taking it for first time
Material(s) used
• First Aid CS (4th edition)
• UWorld CS Cases + Physical Exam Videos
• ECFMG CS Booklet (From 2001 but good practice cases)
• Updated 2014 USMLE CS Bulletin
Time to prep: 4 weeks for each person respectively
All passed with above average scores in all components (Atlanta Test Center)

Default What went wrong the first time?

What do you think you did wrong the first time or what did you do differently?
