Default Urine toxicology for SP who denies illicit drug use

Should we talk about consent for urine toxicology during closure even when SP denies illicit drug use? How do you do this without conveying lack of trust towards the patient? Can I explain that it's a standard or recommended diagnostic to have objective documentation that his/her symptoms are not drug-related?

I don't think you need to ask for their consent for urine toxicology. For Step 2 CS, it is recommended that you ask for consent for HIV test. I work in a hospital in the US and I have never seen anyone ask consent for urine toxicology even in real life.

A toxicology test checks blood, urine, or saliva for the presence of drugs or chemicals. In rare cases, stomach contents or sweat may also be checked.
