Default Step 3 or USCE

I intend to participate in the upcoming match. I have until Sept to work on my application. My credentials are

Step 1 227, Step 2 CK 228, Step 2 CS Pass (All 1st Attempt) IMG, YOG 2012. 1 mo university hospital USCE. Home country internship, 2 international research publications. Aiming for IM, FM

Should I do more USCE or give my Step 3 before submitting my application? Which would be more helpful. Kindly advice.

Congratulations on your achievements so far! Add step 3 to your application, it increases your chances of getting IVs and been ranked favorably by programs.You definitely need USCE, it is something that can be raised in your interviews and you can comfortably talk about what you did(it was raised in a couple of places where I interviewed). Goodluck, sir/madam.

Thank you neuralcrest for your insight. Currently, I'm preparing for Step 3 and looking for observerships/externships.

Good job on the steps and congratulations on your journey so far!

I would say do both. you will be in the USA for step3, might as well get another USCE. ideally, you should plan your USCE in july ( giving enough time for your physician to write an LoR and upload it too) and take step 3 in august.You will have your LoR and step3 score by the time your submit your application.

even if you are unable to get your score before september 15th, this delay is a blessing in disguise. It will be a reason to call the program coordinators in the mid interview season to inform them about your step 3 result and show interest in their program. you will definitely be fetching a handful of interviews this way!

If you cannot do both, then it depends on where you are getting your USCE. if its somewhere that is IMG friendly and you have a good shot in their program then go for USCE, if not then take all your time for step3 and get a 230+.

remember, USCE in an IMG friendly place is a +++
step 3 score of 230+ is a +++

anything less then 220 or USCE in a place where they dont take IMG wont place a strong impact.

IM and FM: it is my understanding that FM is generally for AMG's and US citizens. it is difficult for IMGs and visa acquiring peeps. I may be wrong. i would suggest to apply for IM only, you have a good chance.
