Question Routine screening of 45-yr-old woman

A 45-year-old married, premenopausal woman is evaluated during a routine examination. She has no medical problems, and her family and medical history are noncontributory. Her most recent laboratory studies of 2 years ago were normal, including cholesterol level. She does not drink or smoke, have any HIV risk factors, or have any depressive symptoms.

On physical examination, blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg, and BMI is 26. The breast and pelvic examinations and most recent Pap smear were normal.

In addition to the evaluation performed above, which of the following screening maneuvers is most likely to reduce this patient's 10-year mortality?

A Cardiac auscultation
B Complete skin examination
C Dilated funduscopy
D Pulmonary auscultation
E No other physical examination maneuvers

I think the answer is b. American Cancer Society recommends full skin exam yearly after the age of 40 and 3 yearly between 20 and 40years, though this is not universally agreed upon!

Another answer would be mammography. This is also yearly recommended after the age of 40 by the American Cancer Society. Other resources see that it is not necessary before the age of 50 years.
